My sons 80 just got back from pre trip inspection; new oem coils, fox shocks, y pipe replacement -and shakedown. We found it 5 years ago on FBPM and raced over to St Louis to snag it for his first car. He’s a mechanical engineering student at KSU now and my dads retired. All of us are looking forward to SAS7 before he heads back to school.

Well, did some looking around and found I took pictures of the clutch parts that had the part numbers on them.

So I was able to order the clutch disk, and the pressure plate which should be here next week. Different places but piecing it together should work. :)

At this point I haven’t found the pilot bearing or the throw out bearing easily. Will need some more digging. Those are both only less than 2 years old.

Not worried about the pilot bearing, but I would like to replace the throwout if I can find it timely 🍺

Otherwise maybe the redneck method is to cover it in bacon grease, stuff it in a possum and dunk it in a turkey fryer for 3 mins and 18 seconds and sweet baby jeebus we’re running!

Had to replace passenger side (R) mirror. Broke it last Saturday going up a very narrow and sketchy trail in the Eastern Sierra. Usually not a bad trail, capable driver and rig and generally no issues. Trail has now been made much more difficult than in the past due to this year’s extreme snow…and now snow melt.

Once you start up this trail you go from 8K elevation to 11+K in maybe 8-9 miles. 4 low the entire way and lockers at times. There’s cabins at the top which was our lunch destination. We got to within 0.1 GPS miles from the cabins & were stopped by a huge snow bank that was still in the shade. Absolutely NO place to turn around. Narrow, sketchy and major league drop off .

No choice but to back down this shelf road to a wide spot we remembered about 1.5 miles behind us. 3 vehicles, the one behind did not get out of their vehicle and spotted the vehicle in front of them via our Ham radio. A day to remember for sure. No pictures as we were a bit busy.

I will do NO MORE wheeling between now and SAS leave time. (I’m not as crazy as I look you know.)🤔

Pictures of the replacement mirror from a 70 series. Thank you @cruiseroutfit. Ordered on Wednesday, arrived today.👍

Actually, here’s the cabins we were trying to reach. Pictures taken from previous times up there. These cabins and the trail itself are described in the Roger Mitchell books. The small 30-40 page one from the ’60’s and also his later book from the ’90’s I believe. My understanding is that they are from the 1880’s…maybe 1860’s, I forget. Very Kool.

Last I heard, Mitchell was still alive…in poor health but still kicking.

EDIT: his book from the ’60’s has a picture of another cabin close to these…with a old Scout AND a 40 in front of the cabin.

Oh my. And I always thought things were just easier in California 😳

Does that cabin have a roof, John? I thought that was implied with “cabin” (roof) 😆

@Kleatus I also have a friend nearby that is helpful to my plight. Also, opposite of you I really want to pull these 3.70s and drop in some 4.10s. I want to pull my hair out driving this thing with the 3.70s and 215 85s. Im actually thinking about putting some 31x10.50s on just for this trip. I met my deadline, she's mechanically ready for the trip as of today. I did order a few odds and ends from trail tailor today and some new audio components to make the drive more bearable.

@roma04298 come on over, regear party in progress. These 3.70's I thought I had are 4.11's. Oh well. In they go. I also have an extra 80 series 4.10 third that I can't recall ever acquiring.

Good afternoon everyone. We are almost three weeks out to this years event. Swag is showing up almost daily here and its getting exciting to say the least.
From the looks of things on the thread, many are elbow deep or just finishing up last minute repairs for this years Solid Axle Summit.
As a reminder, those of you in need please check Page 1 Post 2 of this thread for our awesome sponsors. If you need something and possibly want it delivered to Ouray by a attending sponsor give them a shout.
As always, looking forward to seeing you KnuckleHeads in a 21 days or so...
