First year attendees, if you haven't requested a SAS #1 grill badge or paid for one yet please do that also. @The Machinist is close to having these in production.

San Juan forest is getting shut down due to fire danger. Hopefully we will have a good monsoon season. PRAY FOR RAIN!

I was looking at the map for the San juan national forest and it looks like the trails we run will not be affected. Hopefully we get RAIN and there are no more closures.

We are a month and a half out or so. Hopefully the afternoon rains will begin soon.
Not giving up on any of it. We will have a plan B if the area closes. I have already anticipated a campfire/ openfire ban in the area.
Anyone with accurate info please contact myself or McGuire in a PM. Much easier to plan rather than relying on hear say info.
Thanks, Casey..

Speaking for myself, I plan on going regardless of the NFS status. This is an opportunity to get my favorite vehicle on the road and experience the world where time slows a bit. Hanging out with likeminded people from all parts of this great community is the bigger part of this for me. The cooler temperatures play a big part also.

Hell man, I'm going on vacation even if it means I'm hanging out in @POTATO LAUNCHER 's back yard!

Seriously, we will make a go of it. So looking forward to chilling out for a few days!

Latest prediction is for an early and active "monsoon" season based on the weather models.
We were near Telluride for a few days this weekend. It was very dry and very smoky from the Durango fires.
@POTATO LAUNCHER has the right idea, plus as @Mr Cimarron said there are a lot of options.

I’m thinking the same thing. Fleeing to cooler temps from Texas. So yeah chilling, literally.

Funny thing, when I did the "alpine loop" solo 2 years ago I read about how idiots would go up there in flip flops and freeze themselves. Turns out I hit such a nice stretch of weather, I wore my flip flops 90% of the time. Still cool but awesome weather. Plus they were really manly tough flip flops, really.

I'm about to move to Buena Vista, CO which is near (relatively speaking) but not in the San Juan forest. If things go really sideways I'll volunteer to help arrange some other options which stay out of the burn areas. We've got lots of great options in and around the Arkansas River valley which would keep everyone highly entertained I think.

As a side note - I've been chatting with the folks from Soul Craft Brewing off and on about an FJ60 meetup at their brewery. If anyone wants to get together for a pre-SAS stop in to Salida let me know, maybe we can make a little bit of a show out of it. I'm a big fan of their Work Release Bock, both for the quality of the beer and for the label...

And then can you bring a ton of those bottle to SAS?!

So here’s the current situation. My friend Ige made simple sense of the map. Refer to the image for what’s currently closed, and will continue to be until sufficient rain.

A plan B is looking really good right now in terms of having a definitive plan.

Bummer.
Is Black Bear closed due to fire or still snowed in at the top.

I am optimistic that all the trails will be open. FJ Summit is mid July and typically Black Bear had barely been cleared by then. Will follow progress on that site to see what turns up. I immagine the area would be looking forward to the influx of a few thousand folks with wallets full of bills to spend.
I truly believe we will be fine. The Pacific weather front is beginning and the storm tracks will typically hang for several days on the Western slope.
We need good JuJu for this guys. Wash and detail your Cruisers. That will always bring rain, guaranteed ..

From my understanding a portion of Black Bear is closed due to the fire closure, if there’s still snow on the road, not sure. But either way a portion is in the closure area.

It turns out that MY19 Tundra and Tacoma SOP is in August so I am out. Anyone that wants to take my spot, feel free to do so.

Black bear is not closed due to fire
Engineer is not closed
Cinnamon is not closed
