Yep, annual here for any truck made after 75. You can spring for the classic car plates so you only need to do it every 5 years, but I'm a masochist and I like red plates to go with my red truck, so it will be every year for me. At least in my county they no longer do a visual, it's just what comes out of the tailpipe.

A lot of places have discontinued the "testing". With the price of gas it pays to keep your rig running its best. If you can't afford that good chance you can't afford to drive much either.

I ran the numbers once, a single B52 sorte has a larger carbon foot print than my life.

If they cared about the air they would mandate syncrozied stop lights and priority traffic flow plus flashing red/yellow at off peak hours.

Keep it under 5000miles a year and it's a free for all.
Put classic or antique plates on it and it's a free for all.

Hawaii doesn’t have smog inspections… or really any smog, except for what my 40 makes .

We don't have inspections either. You can have a complete rust bucket with no brakes, signals, lights but as long as it passes smog somehow you're good

There's a book they use and everything! The last time I failed the test was because my truck was missing the front manifold insulator. It's this cover with a port that connects to the air cleaner via a tube. Apparently, it helps the carburetor heat up faster while saving the rainforest. I was pretty pissed.

Just the opposite in Texas; no smog test for anything over 25 years old, only a safety inspection for lights, horn, brakes.

I thought they were every other year? At least mine have been..Good on ya for passing! It's work keeping these things compliant.

I've supported my local smog guy way more than I'd like to. He sees me roll up in my latest non-compliant junk project and knows he's got me for at least a couple of expensive-a$$ tests and some quality time on the dyno...
