My front seats came in today, so I set them up for a test fit. There are a couple issues, but they can be fixed.

I have @ 4 inches, between my head and the roof, not bad. I do feel like I'm sitting alittle high. I could lower the seat bracket 1 inch and still have room for the drawers.

BobM wanted to know the seat height, it's at 14 inches. Floor to top of seat. Plenty of room between my legs and the steering wheel.

Delancy's concerns about the 5 speed shifter are real, I'm thinking about a cut and turn! Second gear is under my knee, I don't like the feel. If the shifter were straight, like all the rest, it wouldn't be a problem. We can fix that.

Check out the last picture. I had a 64 Rambler, that the front seats did that. :) Oh the memories !

Travis,

That was a hard purchase for me. With not sitting in one, I wasn't sure how my back would like it. Seems to be alright.

Chris,

I'm thinking the shifter will need to be cut and turned straight, with alittle added in length, at least for me to like it.

All in all, solvable problems.

Can find airline tubing by the aquariums at Walmart that's tight enough to fit and cheap enough to discard after a single use without guilt.

I wanted to clean up the firewall, also, so started filling in the holes. I'm going with a vintage air system, so I closed in the blower holes and starting over.

Hey Ron, I'm planning on doing this soon (well, soon by my standards ;)) and was wondering if there were any other holes you wish you would have filled at the time... or if you filled any you wish you hadn't.

FWIW, I'm planning on a 350 swap.

Hi Travis,

There were are couple more small holes, that I didn't know about. That's a hard one to figure out. I removed a lot of stock stuff, but left a few holes for wires, etc.

Take a lot of pictures of all the things you're keeping, so you don't forget about them and weld the holes up.

On the holes, that I'm not using right now, I plugged with rubber grommets.

I will have to drill new holes for heater lines, etc. Changed my mind on Vintage Air. Going with Old Air.

I haven't regretted it yet, but it's not done yet, either!

Hey Travis,

Good eye! That's exactly what I'm hoping. Even if they don't match up, I can build brackets off of the stock mounting holes.

One of the many decisions a first time pig builder goes through.:)

I need to get off my can and order the ac / heater parts and get it mounted.

OK, I was grinding and sanding today as you can see from the holes, I have a lot of rust in that area. I am tempted to cut it all about and replace, but I might leave them now for the reason you mentioned.

As usual, thanks for the info/ideas. I look forward to seeing your AC/heater selection and installation.

Travis,

With that must rust, maybe cutting all out and weld in new metal, may be best. You can always use weld nuts, for the heater.

Yeah, will probably end up going that way.

Sorry about the hijack, just much better to get the info from someone who's done it.

Wow, I'm sorry I'm coming so late to this thread. Ron, I know you've heard it countless times, but I just can't not say it. Amazing work and absolutely outstanding attention to detail. My fabricator is probably going to hate you after I tell him the "few little extra's" for him to do that i've picked up from this thread. I just do the crap work, he does all the artwork. I'm definitely going to follow Delancy following you on the lizard skin then bed liner.

Right now I think i'm going to go with Pro-tex for my liner though I haven't fully committed. I still think i'm going to liner the outside as well (probably with a two tone pig scheme ). I really like the look though I'm worried I may get kicked off of these forums once word gets out :).

I spent yesterday and today reading every last page of this thread and it was well worth the time. You've helped me find answers to alot of questions on the minutiae and I love how you cleaned up that firewall.

Now that I'm caught up on the thread, I'll be following closely.

Btw, I'm in NW Arkansas, about 2 hours from Delancy and about 5 hours from you. If the 3 of us can manage to get running pigs this year, we need to consider meeting in the middle somewhere for a little show and tell! Of course, reading your thread may have bumped my completion timeline back a month or twelve.

Keep up the outstanding work!

Rodney

Rodney,

Thanks for the nice compliments! I'm glad you're enjoying and finding the build useful. I do the same thing, read what everybody else is working on and get an education.

Don't worry about getting kicked off, that's what is so great about this site, a lot of individualism going on and I think Pighead did his at way, also.

I would really like to meet up one day, but I think between Delancy and me, it might be awhile. Would like to believe, it will be running this year. Like they say, I've been enjoying the journey, so no hurry.

82cruiser,

Thanks man, I really have enjoyed following along with your troopy build. The paint has inspired me, to go with 6H9 on the 55. It's looking like April now, until mine gets painted. Picking colors has been the most agonizing thing for me, on this wagon.

Keep checking in, someday I'll get it done. :)

What color is 6h9 Ron?
