I was playing around today with the fenders, just to see what they were going to look like and I thought you would like to see, also.
I was pleased with them, even thou they do need painting. I have to spray the inside with Lizard Skin and the Monstaliner, before they paint it.
Question: Factory had a rubber strip between upper and lower, what does everybody use there. Same or seam sealer, etc.
I took off the fender of my parts pig and it was rusted between the two halves, pretty good. I would like to prevent that from happening again.

Another question: I snapped off the bolt for the front turn signal light, from the parts pig. The housing and fixture are good. Is this bolt replaceable? I have a couple sets of these lights, but I felt bad ruining one. Any ideas?

Use the threaded rod from a lamp where the cord runs up the center

Ok, I was wrong, earlier I was talking about a gasket between the upper and lower fenders, no gasket. In fact I didn't know they are spot welded together. 
I never had my old 55 apart and the 71 came in pieces, so when I removed the parts pig's fenders, I couldn't get the two apart. No wonder they rust out. I took one apart, it's not hard to seperate, but have some rust issues.
Now, what about the gasket that goes between the doghouse and top fender ( see last picture ). Everybody just make their own?

that's actually pigheads. last time i had to replace one, i just ran a bolt and drilled a seperate hole thorugh everything for the wires
the piece above the fender is the apron. the doghouse would essentially be the tranny tunnel.

Huh, I always called the inner fender wells, etc. the doghouse. I guess I hung around a uninformed group.
Alright, is there a new rubber gasket for the apron to fender? It seems easy enough to make, but would rather buy premade.

My fenders are factory spot welded together so there's isn't anything in between mine. I'm planning to drill the welds and bolt them together for the future. I've debated with the same question. Seam seal would probably be my choice although I'm a bit picky about the line it will leave between the to pieces once. I guess I can live with it as I'd prefer no water penetration vs. aesthetics. I think a rubber strip will capture moisture.

Gonzo55, sugested I run a bead of seam sealer between the two, then run a bead down the seam, before you final paint.
His wagon turned out beautiful, so I'm going with him. It's alot better than stock. That is a water trap.

I separated mine. I cut out all the rust, welded in patches, POR 15, bolted them all back together, and then 3M seam sealer right before paint. I ran a length of flat aluminum underneath kinda like a big washer. It was a bit tricky getting all the pieces together and aligned, but it has held well, and is able to be taken apart. The seam sealer worked well.

Sounds like we're all on the same page. Seperate, clean up, then use seam sealer, before paint.
It's no wonder they have a rust problem there, hopefully this will take care of it, for awhile.

Scrappy, you are not alone, I have seem that front inner fender assembly for our Pigs (that includes the radiator crossmember) referred to as a dog house.
Not sure of the origin of this assembly nickname.
Looks like a dog house when upside down.

It's funny, being an old VW Beetle nut, we call the cooling duct work, the Doghouse.

I call your NOS fenders and raise you a very cool OS 69 grill!
I truly want to thank Lambcrusher for stepping up and selling me this great grill. Just the crate it came in, was worth the price.
The grill is getting taken apart and worked over for it's new home on the 71.

Meh, I sent the same grille out to other Mudders some time back.....bahahaha.
Very cool though.
In the early stages of thought, was thinking it'd be cool to eliminate the OE fender signals and run only the grille signals.....but the whole OE thing sent me to another level of insanity.
