Thanks Man, that means alot, coming from a guy who works hard on his Cruisers.

They have been replated. I had a pile done with cadmium, thinking about doing some more. Makes for a nice finish. I sandblasted everything first, then redid the plastic with plastic dip. Makes a nice padded handle, etc.

Remember that you want to get the inside fold down arm rest if you are not going to have a center console. I like no center so I can get into the back seat easily.

Xtiaan,

Good point, I haven't decided on which product, but will have a center console. It would be fun to build my own.

Thanks, Ron

Finally, got the roof and doghouse done. I think they turned out nice, the Cygnus White matches the body panels great!

I have the body shop guy coming out to the farm and look over everything for painting, I'm not ready just yet, but getting it lined up. We're keeping the white, but changing the green. Not telling yet! :p

Calling Pighead!

I need some advice on the tailgate. My torsion bar is messed up and one of the POs welded a bar to the body for some reason, behind the hinge. You can see it in the picture. I would like to eliminate all of that. What's everybody think? Do I need the torsion bar or not?

I know we talked before, about the tailgate, just don't want to screw up now.

I took the time to replace mine when I was doing the rear body mounts and am stoked that I did. It was a bit of a challenge when it came to reassembly but well worth it! Judging from the work that you've done so far you will kick yourself later if you don't.

Xtiaan,

I'm not sure yet on what to do. Should do like you said and just fix it. I don't know why the piece of bar stock was welded there. Looks to be for holding the rod?

I'll have to take apart the 69's tailgate, to see how everything goes together, hard to tell from the Repair Man.

Thanks for the advice, I need all the help I can get.

Me?!? I don't know...I've never owned a Pig without that tailgate torsion bar. Don't know how hard it is to close a tailgate without it. That welded in bit might be the remains of your old bar. It's been a while since I've seen the inside of one.

Not sure that I see the bit of welded on bar that you are talking about. There should be a slot that you can drop the right angle short end of the bar into and then it is secured by a bolt on the underside, accessible by looking under the car and removing a rubber flap( if that flap is still there). Does that make sense?

Pighead, I know you have been around the block, a few times with the inside of the tailgate.

The welded bar is right behind the hinge, where the torsion bar goes in the hole. My bar doesn't have any threads on it, so they must have welded the piece there to hold it in the hole?

Well I guess I'll get some parts together and fix it right. Thanks Guys.

I don't recall my rod having a nut on that end, I thought it just slipped into the hole...

There are no threads on the bar, but it slips into the hole and there is a bolt, accessible underneath, that When tightenend squeezes the bar in place. I think mine was rusted and inoperable so the cover really only holds the bar down in the hole.

See, I'm learning alot! It's making more sense to me. My torsoin bar on that end is squared, so the bolt thing makes sense.

Thanks guys!

Looking through my parts pile, at the torsion bar, I spied some hood latches. I have three sets, which none are very good. I need to get one good latch ready to be powder coated, so I took one apart... alot of parts make up a latch.

Here's some pictures. Had to knock out four rivets and some screws, but came out alright.

rivets? are you talking about the little plastic clips that hold the rubber wiper weatherstrip?

Yeah, I was wrong. They are plastic. Thanks for pointing that out. Can we still buy those new?

Ron every time you post a picture it makes me excited and depressed all at the same time. Such rediculously awesome detail you spend makes me want to do mine all the same. Thanks for the inspiration!
