Thanks Guys,

It's fun to be able to spend this amount of time on a project and hopefully have it turn out nice and dependable.

Travis, that would be great! How are you on baling hay :).

Pablo,

I don't remember alot from those days, I do remember when Easy Rider opened at the show in town and we all piled in the car to see it.

I was thinking more along the lines of cheking out the pig, pettin' some goats and sipping some fine InBev products,...... but I'm always up for helping out with some manual labor. :D

Sounds like the perfect day, to me. See you this summer.

Here's a couple teaser shots. I'm waiting on some brackets at the platers, so I can't really start on the lines yet, but I think they will work. My M37 military truck has this Gravel Guard on all the metal lines, so I thought it would be a good idea to use it here.

Both the brake and fuel lines will have it on. Stainless steel, so it will hold up and easy to work with.

I've changed my mind on the inside of the roof. I was just going to leave it black, the color of the Lizard Skin. Now it's going back on the rack and I'm going to spray it with colored tinted Monstaliner. It will be Cignus White and no headliner put up. I never liked headliners, getting discolored and ripping with age, I even have a brand new in the box. :meh:

I've got an idea for the roof. I'm going to build a framework out of Alum. tubing and it will be the supports for the roof and have the cargo lights, etc mounted in it, later on that.

Hey Ron,

What will you use to double flare the stainless steel lines?

I tried using one of the sort-of quality ones from summit but the clamp wouldn't hold against the die. The tube just kept getting pushed down without making the first flare. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I thought the tube was just too stout and I'd have to either buy the $180 thing (for a couple-times of use) or get the local tube shop to flare for me. Both options hurt as I like to do it myself, but I like to have SOME money as well.

TDC.-

Hey Travis,

Sorry I confused you, the brake line is called Cunifer, a copper nickel alloy. The Gravel Guard, that slides over the tubing, is stainless steel.

The flaring tool I bought is from Mastercool, it will flare any type tubing, but is way over the top in price.

By the way, your pictures have helped me a great deal. I had no idea how some of the lines ran. Thanks again!

Got some parts back from the platers. Cadmium plating should hold up alot better than just yellow zinc phos.

Just need to remember where it all goes.

Put the rollers on, just for fun. Don't look too bad. I don't know what would hold up to the wire rope, but better than paint.

Took me over an hour to remember how this went back together, @ eight moving parts in the shifter alone. I highly recommend taking alot of pictures.

Brake lines are coming along good. Question, does anybody have an opinion on the length of play in the brake line from axle to frame. I have @ three inches, I'm not sure if that's enough.

Now you are just showing off!
My fair lead assembly continues to own me.
I can't believe how many inter-dependent parts there are in the whole winch assembly.
I tried to order a die for my horizontal roller bolt, and it is too big. I ordered a 15m x 1.5. So either they sent me the wrong size, or those threads are like a 14.5m x 1.5?
The funniest part is that now the threads on one of my upright bolts is trying to strip in re-assembly! There is something wrong in the threads that receive in that plate.
IH8 my PTO!
Rant off.

Pablo,

You're right, sometimes I think an electric winch would be easier, but not cooler. From the shifter, gearbox, driveshaft and the winch, there's awhole lot of work involved. You'll get it.

I didn't have to rework the horizontal bolts, but the vertical bolts are M12-1.25-160, I couldn't find the right length, so I went with the 170mm. It works fine.

If it comes to it, can always have a machine shop cut down the bolt threads, to a different size.

Good luck with it, Ron

It's just a plate, the same thickness as the backing plate, also called a dust shield. Some have just cut down the backing plate, looking like a big washer. You then have to use a longer flex line for your brake.

Between the spindle and the dust seal. Don't mind the tap, it was a bad day.

The backing plate eliminators make it easy if you don't want to run the backing plates. I stock them .....
Personally, I like backing plates on anything but trail-only rigs.

Truck is looking great Ron, keep up the good work.

Georg
