It's been one of those weeks. I am totally over thinking the transmission mount. I spent the week laying under the wagon, trying to come up with a mount, that will work. I admire the guys, who whip one up in an evening, but that ain't me. Everything I came up with, either interfered with the front u-joint or make running the exhaust, a problem. So this is where I'm at, almost done. After this, I'm buying a tubing bender.

Georg sent my Marlin Crawler drag and tierod's today.

Looking real good. My problem is I lie under the pig analyzing things then whip something out. Then....I realize I wasn't thinking and then have to re-do it.

Alright! That sounds good to me, Bob. We do want to travel around the Country and meet some of the guys.

I'll even bring the Budweiser!

I can envision "great" ideas. I've got it all planned out in my head.

Then I hit reality - the TC is isn't square to the engine or the frame, this bolt doesn't fit that hole, etc, etc, etc.

Here's my first two fabrication efforts at a trans crossmember.

Sure, it'll be easy, I'll just attach this to the original mounting points, put a plate on there for the transmission mount...voila! :whoops: I guess there's a little offset. That's OK, just bend this piece that way and reweld these bushing pieces on, and... that doesn't line up either...:bang:

I think I posted up somewhere that I'll be reverting to the original and clearance-ing where I need to for bolts, etc. HA.

I hate that i can't do this, but I am glad there's similar challenges everywhere. I get my motivation from others' struggles ;).

Looking good. I'm enjoying watching the progress. Best,
Travi

Hi Travis,

Good hearing from you. I've been looking for an update on your's. Everything going forward.

On mine, that mount really slowed me down, I'm just glad I like playing with metal or this would be a headache. The frame mounting is what's holding me up. No room to do anything.

For Christmas, my Grandchildren gave me the flu, so I've been enjoying that . I'll hit it hard next year!

Happy New Year, Ron

Where to start? I just spent over two weeks, trying to come up with my rear crossmember. In my own defence, everything was against me :). I had a fish plate end, right where I needed a plate and the frame curved right at the same spot. not to mention the body mount in the way, with one of those square holes in the frame thrown in the mix. What else, the front driveshaft, the PTO shaft and where to go with the exhaust pipes?

Anyway, I'm not done with the mount holes and the frame needs to be sleeved with DOM tubing, but you get the picture.

Hopefully, I get the motor pulled tomorrow and finish welding in the mounts.

Next up, try to mount this big ass tank, in the frame. It's got two other sets of mounting brackets, welded to it. I'll cut them off and see what I can come up with.

You rock crawling guys wouldn't approve of all the " stuff " hanging below the frame, but really the most I'll be crawling over is a stray shopping cart!

Hang in there with me and we'll get this done. :)

Looks cool scrap daddy! If your going to have that mount hanging below the frame I would suggest a skid plate on it so you don't hang up :)

Gonzo, Thanks!

That is the plan, for now. I want to make another similar crossmember for the backside and then skin with plate. it's not going to be a light weight model.

I got the motor pulled today and I want to be the first to say, it wasn't easy. These type mounts are great, but you have to really work at getting it to clear everything.

I had to remove the headers and starter, just to get the bellhousing over the front mounts.

Welded up the front mounts and started drilling and welding the DOM tubing for the rear mounts. I think it might work.

I've got some body off work on the frame, so I'll drop the motor back in when the body is off. Make it alot easier to line up.

When I get the driveshafts made and installed, I can see if the rear mount can be cut down alittle, so it doesn't hang down so low. Try to get some more ground clearance.

Hey, as long as the power train can be removed ......... It's not like it needs to be super easy, just possible.

I'll make a skid plate, but with it hanging so low, I won't be following Pighead! :)

If you want to follow Pighead, you'll prolly have to go ahead and do a spring over.

Gosh. While it is somewhat gratifying that some think that I'm the Pigdriver to follow...I'm not worthy. Perhaps I should get that bumpersticker "Don't follow me, you won't make it" But that might seem boastful, and not my style.
Nice work though.

Yeah, You're right Georg, it's not like I'm going to be pulling the motor very often ( hopefully ). You guys make it look easy!
