Sliders..but I need mudflaps. Suggestions? (2 Viewers)

I installed the bump it off road factory looking 2x6 step slider. The factory front flap did not quite fit so I found a set of stock mud flaps from my old 87 Toyota pickup and trimed them to fit and bolted them on in some of the stock holes. We used them on the Trans Labrador Highway trip last summer 500 miles of gravel/drit road with great luck. Plus they flex out of the way nicely.

Eric, how do you like the 2x6 sliders? Fit/install etc. Any close up pics of the front near the mudflaps?

Thanks
Stu

91 & 92 mud flaps will not work on your 97.

Your best bet would be to purchase 93 - 97 factory mud flaps w/ flares & w/o boards, then trim to fit the slider of your choice.

OR

Purchase Non-USA factory 93 -97 "pre-trimmed" mud flaps w/ flares & w/ boards, not to be confused with the end caps we got here (USA).
Cruiserparts.net stocks them. Link below
Mud Flap, Front Left 93-97 w/flares and boards [76604-60011] - $79.00 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

Yes, they will work. I have FJ80 front mud flaps on my FZJ80. They were on it when I bought it. They work, you just have to drill 1 hole in them to attach to the wheel well. They work well & are also several inches shorter that the FZJ80 flaps which helps keep them from getting ripped off by terrain.

I trimmed them to fit my Metal Tech sliders. You can make a cardboard template and trim it until it fits nice. Then transfer the cardboard template to the flap and cut away.

Here are some photos.

Stu,
I've been happy with the step sliders as they are very easy for the family to use on a daily basis, plus they are built stong and offer great protection. I had them built with some tabs welded to the bottom front and rear so I could use the high lift on them with out it slipping off. I did try it and they worked. I did get some minor flex of the step rail pushing up but it worked to lift the tire off the ground. We have a RTT and these sliders are nice to stand on when setting up camp. Attached are a couple of photos of the slider and mud flap. I used some old flaps and drilled holes to allign with the holes used to hold the factory flap in place.

I want to buy sliders for my '97 but I need to have some type of front mudflap protection.

Details...

-Cost up to $1000 is fine.

-I don't know of a good local 'custom' slider builder.

-I would like to buy bolt-on sliders.

My vehicle is used on-road 90% of the time but when I do go off-road the trails are pretty nasty so I want the sliders so I don't crush the $$rockers$$.

I live in Canada so my truck spends a great deal of time driving through snow, slush, rain and gravel; without mudflaps the rockers will get beat to sh*t in no time and the rush will follow soon after , not to mention the side of the truck gets dirty so fast with the mudflaps removed.

At the moment Slee and Metal Tech are at the top of my list. Has anyone successfully integrated mudflaps, OEM or aftermarket, with either of these sliders?

Thanks :)

I had the same issue, and ended up getting a pair fabbed locally. I believe it was CAN$650.00. They are bolted on using existing holes in the frame, but flex when I use them to lift the truck. They have taken a beating and now have dents in the round tubing, but have prevented what would have been significant damage to the rockers and cats. After two winters they are starting to rust (bedliner type paint used) and I plan on repainting them this summer. I take the mudflaps off now when I going wheeling, as I lost a front one on a trail (CAN$130:doh:).

I trimmed the factory mud flaps to work with Slee's "Step" sliders,
I then added some welting around the area I cut, to give it a more finished look.

CDFarmer nice fit to the mudguard. can you post a couple more pics from the side and rear?

Thanks
Stu

These are my bump it offroad sliders, I need to get them tack welded because they will move (but not bend) when you bash on them.

I used the stock front flap that is meant for stock running boards and used a heat gun to mold it around the 2x6 sliders. It came out pretty good.

Slee sliders. Non-running board (non-USA?) Toy mudflaps from Beno. Trimmed flaps to fit with shears and sharp utility knife.

Metal Tech with Mud Flaps

Here are my new Metal Tech sliders. Got them on the current sale. :bounce:

I got the mud flaps on, but had to cut a rectangular hole in the front of the mud flap to fit over the front edge of slider. You can see where I had to open the flap in the second picture.

If the slider was just about 1/2" shorter, the mud flap would fit perfect.

These things fit so well, I was very impressed with the fit and finish.

Some nice examples of the way some have handled the change from running boards to sliders! Here is how I did it with the OEM flaps that came on both ends of my OEM running boards:

The sliders were built by Frankie and his crew at Frankie's Off Road. You can see anti-skid tape in some of the pix. I have since pulled off what didn't get scraped off and masked off the top of my sliders and used Rustoleum bed coating. It seems to be holding up better.

I have Metal Tech sliders and I just purchased a Slee rear bumper (still have to put it on). The whole reason I put sliders on my 80 was to protect my rocker panels. As much as I scrape my sliders, I don't think a mudflap would stay on very long. How do the Canadian authorities expect you to get around this one. Might be a good idea to rig up something you can remove when you go wheeling. It is probably do-able.

Great seeing so many Metal-tech 4x4 sliders! Well done on trimming the mud flaps to work with the sliders. Thank you for the kind words on their fit and finish. We take pride making the best sliders available for our 80's.

The two stage outer rub rail on our sliders is also a Metal-tech 4x4 Trade Marked design. Folks with the newest sliders from us will notice the US Federal Trade Mark # on the drivers side.

We ship all over Canada, happy to send another set North. Happy to send you a shipping quote. Send us an e-mail at: info (at) metaltech4x4.com . We have them in stock too so no waiting!

Anyone try the front flaps that are for the trucks that have flares AND steps to see how they work with sliders? Thx!

Ah yes those were very helpful, I should have been clearer. Has anyone tried the flaps pictured here? (pic from cruiser parts.net) or do you find that trimming the flaps as above looks and works better? Thx for your input.
