No progress to report, but the new body panels are due for delivery tomorrow. Maybe I'll have something new to show by Friday.

The new body panels did not arrive last week and no progress has been made since the last pics. My truck was supposed to be finished NLT the end of June and at this point it looks like there's around 2-3 weeks of work left. I'm bummed, but not really surprised.

But...Happy July 4th.

I checked on mine Friday and they have just picked up the ball and started to prep the tub; grinding and sanding out the old glue from the carpet. I was so unimpressed with the progress that I failed to take a single pic. We will see what this short week brings. I'm starting to think it will have rained 10 inches before I get it back.

Hope everyone had a great Forth!

I'm in the same boat. Sittin, waitin on body parts. I guess Fall will be a good estimate for me since a lot of time will be wasted.waiting for parts.

Yeah, waiting for parts. I paid a visit to the body shop this afternoon. My custom fabbed body panels that were scheduled for delivery early last week still hadn't shown up. So after numerous phone calls to FedEx I finally reached a live person, who located the shipping crate in their hub warehouse outside Chicago. Apparently it was just sitting there. The FedEx guy said "Oh yeah, here it is. Wonder what it's doing here?" Supposedly being sent out today, but I'll believe it when I see it. :censor::mad:

Stopped by this afternoon and they had already sealed up the shops to close, but body manager said they made progress. Took the panels down to steel and will float the old PS repairs tomorrow with a bondo like product that is mostly metal as opposed to plastic.

I'm getting re-enthused because they think we are within a week from the finish line. I will post pics tomorrow evening.:D

Well, to my amazement, FedEx overnighted the box with my patch panels, the one they lost last week. It arrived this morning. I guess that's some progress, but we still lost over a week of work time. In addition to the rust issue seen in the first photo, the PO cut 3" off the bottom of the side panel, outer rocker, and apron in order to install sliders. We're restoring the truck to stock configuration, using all new 16 gauge metal panels from Real Steel. Here's a couple of not very interesting pics. Sorry, it's all I've got. :frown:

I'm gonna need that exact same sheet metal for my red 78 when I get around to repairing the body work. I "crunched" all of that in from the rear wheel well to the front cowl on both sides at Trees a couple of years ago :whoops:. Both trucks are starting to look very good :beer:

OK Gents we are moving. These pics were from mid-afternoon and I was told she would be in primer by this evening. ETA is now mid-week. I'm going to push her around the corner and put her back together myself. Hope to be rolling by next weekend.:D

Still a little hammer and dolly to go under this old damaged quarter panel. Mike was cutting this back to metal when I interrupted and was getting ready to bang it a few more times before the All Metal filler. Had to assist in demo of kitchen countertops this evening or I would have been rubbing it myself.

That looks great Kelly. I'm envious. I predicted you'd be weeks ahead of me and unfortunately, I was correct. I'm not ready to concede defeat, but I hear the fat lady singing. :frown: and

Yea but I had an unfair advantage in that my scope of work was significantly less than yours. Looking forward to that beer(s) and side by side observation.

$%&#@!!!!

Another setback today. We cut out the rusted outer rocker panels, thinking we'd weld in the replacement panels this afternoon. Behind the rockers is another piece of sheet metal with a lip, which appears to be part of the tub or at least attached to the tub. Hard to describe. The rocker butts up against it. and is partially stabilized by the lip. On the rustbucket, these pieces are completely rotted out. We'll have to order custom fabbed replacement pieces from Real Steel. No more work until we get those in hand. Dammit! :censor::mad:

Pics of what we thought would be welded up and primed today.:frown:

I know behind the rocker are three little pieces that are tack welded to the rocker panel and the bottom of the floor, one on each end and one in the middle. They are tack welded to the floor pan also. These can be little bas*&#d's to get out of the way before the panel can come off.....

Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about. On my '82, it's one long piece rather than 3 little pieces. It looks like Toyota designed that piece specifically to capture mud and water. On the PS, it's about 50% rotted away. On the DS, it's almost completely gone.

Sorry to hear about another delay Lee. Mine is still creeping along.

He's in his final rub, says he wants to make sure that the rivet lines show through so he is applying a light colored layer of filler so he can see the rub out. Was hoping to find it in primer today but maybe tomorrow. I'm no longer holding my breath.

Heck, that looks good to me. You're on the home stretch and probably driving to Billy's by next Friday.

I'll be pleased if mine is completed by the end of August. As someone pointed out today, I could have bought a new tub and been done with it by now, and at a lower drive out cost. I'm not really complaining; we've found rust pockets that weren't obvious when the project commenced. Part of the joy of owning a 40.

I guess our Friday re-assembly party is out for this week :frown:

Yep, just gonna have to drink beer. Today he had removed the rusted primer from around the top edge of the tub that fits up into the hardtop, it had some micro pitting so they were treating it to prevent the rust from coming back. I'm giving up on the predictions, but the attention to detail has been amazing. Hope I don't have to sell the house to get her out of hock.
