TGIF FJ40 Repairs

1630 on Friday afternoon and I'm guessing you gents are into pint no. 2 at Billy's about now. Sorry to miss out, but I'm enjoying a Mad River Steelhead Double IPA in honor of Memorial Day weekend and WALCS. Stopped by the body shop this afternoon and didn't see anything new worthy of reporting. They replaced my tie rod and relay rod this morning. The TR was bent at a right angle in the center. I should have saved it for a souvenir. Here's a couple of new shots of the rear sill and corner channels. Nothing spectacular, but best I can do.

Ha, we've all been there....here's a story for you. I won't name names in order to protect the innocent. A new WALCS member (and new FJ40 owner) returned home from attending their first Friday meeting at Billy's. That individual had guessed at being home no later than 6PM. The meeting ran longer than expected and their arrival home was closer to 7PM. This person was greeted at the door by an irate :princess: who's first words were:

"Is this how it's gonna be, with you and those people?"

What a privilege it is to 'be one of those people'. I think I have finally made it!!

No progress today. Ordered new body mounts so I'm waiting. Dropped beer by Cplvin, hoping to trade beer for time pm the media blaster.

Wish I could confirm your suspicions but no. Drove by at 4:15 with no cruzas in sight so I rolled home. Tucker is moving and who knows about the rest of the gang. We are building a LOT of demand for a meeting. Sea Knight, when are you headed south?

Rear Heater

My ambitions of finishing everything in may garage went unaccomplished, but I did make a little progress. Here is the rear heater looking a little better.

Drivers seat rails

Here is drivers seat's outside rail redo. Only the inside rail to go and the seats mounts will be done. These have been a PTA with all the nooks and crannies. Also have to move the seat on the rail and clean - shoot again to make sure you don't have a rusted section on the ends.

Fuel evaporator cover

Also knocked out the fuel filler and evaporator covers. I need to get back into a work week and get some rest.

What paint and color did you use for the heater? Looking good Kelly!

Dave, I used the pewter rattle can from Cruiser Corps. I think the color is good but I'm not sure how happy I will be with the long term finish. If I had it to do over I would find the pewter code and order the rattle can from APS Tower (for a rattle) or shoot a higher quality paint with a gun. I don't have a compressor or gun so the 3rd option was out for me.

You too? Actually I was talking about someone else, who still shall remain nameless.

Haha...who knows? I'm 1/2 looped after hanging out with you guys on Fridays.
I just figured it was something that happened after one of my misadventures.

Rear Quarters Up Next

Custom fabbed rear quarter patches came in yesterday. Made from 16 gauge steel, much more rugged than the original Toyota panels that rotted out. Obviously not welded in--I stuck them on the truck for a photo op. These were built in Illinois by the guy who bought Real Steel Cruiser parts. Very nice fit and quality. Hope to get them primed and begin installing later today.

This is a week of waiting on my sill to come in. CCOT was out of stock but I'm hoping mine is stamped out this week and we can get moving again.

Thanks Edwin. Slow, but it's coming along. I'm gonna pass on the rivets and stick with welds. I'm gettin' pretty good at cutting out rust with a grinder wheel. Too bad I don't know how to weld. Here's some progress from this afternoon. Finished replacing part of the DS rear quarter.
