Hi Ali!

Installing a new stereo in my new-to-me 2000 LC. Going to add a backup camera, since the touch screen stereo supports one. But wanted to see what other folks have found that works, since there are a LOT of options as far as mount types and places to mount one I need to be able to see my trailer ball, so that is my only real requirement. So what did you all do for a solution?

I got one of the ones that mount on the licence plate frame and the viewing angle is perfect (I was sure I need it higher) got it for amazon, no idea of the brand like $25 with five stars..

I was piss the old owner did not even think of putting a plug on such a big hole..

Tip, with a set of rivnuts at the bottom the plate make a lot less noise..

I'm thinking about doing the same thing with my 2000, I'll be interested to see what responses you get. Keep us updated with your progress if you don't mind!

I put mine in the bumper. It's water proof. I used the left tail light for power and in the DS kick panel there is a red/black reveres wire you tap into.

After running them outside for years I needed to lift mine due to running a hitch box and ended up just putting it on the top of the inside window area. This is when I put it on first but it's centered now.

Was going to move it to the hatch side right up agains t the glass but never got around to it.
Much more useful than staring at the back of the box from plate level.

Also Dont have to clean it all the time with all the dirt that gets kicked up or worry about moisture that always gets these amazon cameras.

Yay! What did I win? It's an Alpine camera, not sure the model #, but they come with the mounting bracket.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I prefer not to start new threads if relevant ones already exist. Was it difficult running your wires through the upper portion of the rear hatch? And how did you get back to tie in to the power for the reverse tail lights?

I ran the wires up the pillar on the driver side behind the plastic trim. Then through the rubber grommet at the top. Route the wires through the plastic trim of the top hatch. Most of the trim is easy to remove.

This is awesome!!! I am planning to do like @Matserelli with my install once I get to the stereo stuff. Seems like most cameras today are pretty small and I don't want on the lower tailgate for when I have the dogs and they decide to jump out the back prior to me dropping the lower.

Not off hand, but its probably on here. Most of the panels can be removed with a gentle pull by hand from what I remember. On the upper door you do have to remove the trim plate on the handle with a Phillips screw driver. I would recommend getting a trim panel prying set from the local auto store or harbor freight.

@phatdragon was it overly hard to fish the wires for the camera through like you did? Assuming you went through the grommet with the rest of the wiring harness then down the inside of the rear storage area to a taillight for the signal pickup?

No it was actually pretty simple, most of the trim comes of pretty easy on the inside of the hatch and the rear top door. I tapped into the drivers side tail light for power and reverse signal and yes ran them through the OEM grommet on the top (make sure you get it back on all the way!). Then ran the camera line to the stock nav unit under the passenger seat below the carpet. Using a Naviks unit.

The one thing I would say is try not to get a camera with the predictive lines. Mine has them and the LC is too tall for the gyro to work effectively so the lines are always bending. Also you DO get what you pay for with cameras. I bought a somewhat cheapy one from amazon for the front camera and ended up sending it back twice as they just didn't work. Picked up a nicer one from Best Buy and it works awesome on the trail.
