should the pinion wobble?

Here is where I got my thirds rebuilt years ago. I gave him my own parts and labor was fair. They do a lot of differential work.

He is on your way out of town to CO if you take 580 east if you run into a problem and can handle it all.

Learning to get off the Interstates and take the State roads is one of the best things I've ever done. I only take the Interstates when time is of the essence.

Sea Otter this year?

dude your lucky, if that were me my wife would have been (late) driving the rig to get her hair done on a sat. morning and she would have called me when she got there because there was some sort of noise coming from the rear. When i would have gotten there, would have been looking at an unusually metallic pool of oil underneath the rear. This followed by a bunch of explicatives would have capped off a typical saturday knowing my luck. anyways nice save

of course now i hope youre talking about the same sea otter im thinking of, otherwise this will all make no sense...

by the way, while i had brian was takin a look at my pinion, he also took a general look at the car, mentioning among other things that he thought my valves needed some adjusting. i knew they did, it had been too long since the last person adjusted them.

so i tackled my first ever valve adjustment today, and...

holy s*** this thing runs smooth now! plus it was way easier than i thought itd be... i dunno why i was so afraid of it! 1 and 2 were really tight (low clearance), which the spark plugs reflected as i changed those too. 1 and 2 spark plugs were all black and sooty...

and after a few trips now the pinion is still tight as a button. ill continue to keep a close eye on it

dang it feels good to work on stuff and make it better:beer:

You could say that.
My SS that I built up in '98-'99 while living in Chico, CA on the bike trailer that I built from scratch in '98:

My old skool MTB build ('96), also while in Chico:

A friend used to manufacture bicycle parts & had a booth at the Otter every year. He was building double triple-clamped inverted forks with ~7" of travel in the days when the best RockShox had 3"
I haven't been since '00 when I met up with all of my old Chico State Cycling Team buddies for the weekend.

Glad that the pinion nut thing didn't turn out to be a big deal. Always sucks to have a mechanical when you're far from your normal support group.

its my thread and i say that talking about bikes is a worthy hijack:hillbilly:

if you head out to sea otter this year be sure to get in touch with me somehow, we can kick some tires, 26inches and other

They are Landing Gear forks. I had to TIG on a tab from the drum brake and a guide for the cable housing to keep it out of the tire. The saddle I bought used thinking that it was a Brooks, but the riveted-on tag at the rear says "Ideal", whomever they are.
