I am working in replacing my pinion seal. Removed the driveshaft and the flange, noticed a significant amount of motion in the shaft. Is this normal once the pinion nut has been removed?

I have a video of it, but not sure how to upload/attach?

thanks,
Marc

I messed with it some more, and i see that if I pull it forward it has a lot less play. Maybe I am overthinking this?

Yes - just replace the seal, and reinstall and torque the nut correctly.

don't forget to stake the nut

Thanks. I made things back up to the place it was previously staked plus a few degrees of rotation, and staked the nut. I also made sure that the vent was clear by putting some compressed air through the hose.
Now to move on to the other leaks....
