Great thread, after a long hunt, I recently jumped into the FZJ80 pool, finally found a well maintained mall cruiser with a blown head gasket that needed a good home.
I know and realize exactly what I bought. NO...I really can't afford to do this, but you know what, who cares.... you only live once!
Owning Land Cruisers is about so much more than expense and money.
Its all about owning the ultimate, coolest trucks in the world.

Oh, totally... Someday I hope to retire on all the investments I've made in jeeps, tacomas, motorcycles, and now this cruiser... I just have to find the fund manager and get my dividend check.

Truck, birf kits, 5 285 bfg's, and enough steel to build my tire carrier has me at $9600 in the hole.

agree, I don't wanna know of keep track, I am keeping the truck for a long time so......
I keep track... it is masochistic, but its what i do. 
I'm proud of my spreadsheets I keep for my vehicles. I like to know how much I have spent on each vehicle to the penny.

My 80 was the smartest auto purchase I ever made, and that was in 2000 and I am the 2nd owner.
I have saved so much the mods were "frosting" money - nobody understands our glaring MPG is offset by the low cost per mile if you stay on top of things. These really are financially efficient rigs, starting with a good one.

I only have $400 in my 80 and I get 29mpg. Really it is just like a civic.

Yes it is true, but I really can't go into too many details because of the oil company hitmen, but it has to do with my specially designed vortex generator, paired with my polarity enhanced fuel line magnets that align the fuel ions for proper combustion, as well as my rain water to O2 generator. If anyone wants the secrets to internal combustion engines that the fuel companies don't want you to know, please send a self addressed envelope, $400 and an new 80 series part of your choice to me and you too can enjoy 900 miles on 1 tank of fuel.

So here's a funny conversation with my son (16). It came up because my contract with the company that bought my company was up so me and my old team were laid off in May so I've been joyfully unemployed since then.
Son: dad, since you aren't working what are you going to do for money?
Me: I wouldn't really worry about that, we're fine.
Son: you could sell the Lexus.
Me: are you fxxxing out of your mind?! No way in hell! When your mother finally wises up and divorces my unemployed ass I'm going to need it to live in
Son: *pauses* mom has been talking about trading you in for a firefighter.
Me: wait, what?
Son: just kidding. Dad, if you sold the Lexus you could sell it for like $70k.
Me: hahahahahahahaha *snort* hahahahaha! What the hell makes you think it's worth $70k. I'm not Seth.

Me: there is a guy on mud with more money than g... Never mind. Just some dude on mud. The Lexus maaaaaaybe would be worth closer to $30k. At least one I finished some loose ends.
Son: dad, you're leaving too much money on the table. You need to market it better and you can get more for the truck.
Me: I don't think it works the way you think it does. Vehicles like this don't tend to be good investments.
Son: maybe I look should over the rest of your portfolio and see where we can make some changes so when you sell it we can see where it would benefit most.
Me: look, you're no longer my son, I'm not selling the Lexus and stop worrying about money until you go to college and get your own damn job.

Edit: for those wondering, yes this was a real conversation that I edited down to make it shorter. The actual conversation was funnier and much longer. But I'm typing this sitting on the toilet and my foot is asleep now so...
