ok we are now moving on to complete the suspension portion of jakes 40...i have purchased some 2.5 lift springs...already have the shocks installed....thought about new shackles...got to searching and reading so i went out and did some measuring on the existing shackles...these seem to be aftermarket?...they are long...take a look at the photos and please advise...all input in welcome....should i buy new shackles? or will these work?... as always thanks for the help...

Looks like they are a home made 2" longer shackle...

Also looks like you could use a longer bolt and a metal locking nut to retain them, and not over tighten them like they are right now....will work A LOT better if the shackle is not crushing the bushing. :)

I would verify your caster angle with these, as it may have knocked that out of spec, which will cause your truck to wander and not hold a strait line going down the road.

Good luck!

do ya think i should replace them with new....say 1.5 lift shackles for a little added hieght?.....or will these work ok....9 inch in the rear seems a bit excessive?

you said you are putting on 2.5 lift springs, what size rubber are you runnin?
i've got 2.5 lift on my 40, with what i think are stock anti-inversion shackles.
with cut rear 1/4's i'm runnin 36" iroks, front fenders will be altered also.;)

peronally i would change them, with new bushings.
and remember......never tighten your suspension bolts while its hanging, only tighten after youve set the rig on the ground with the weight of the rig on the suspension.

tire size at this point is 32x11.5...no power steering...14 year old operator...planning to cut the rear quarters...i think...we got some nice fender flares and to have them look right the quarters really need to be cut...plus i am sure that as jake gets older and starts to use the 40 larger tires will be installed..

Then i would definitly go back to a shorter shackle, i see no reason to run a shackle that long, unless you have longer than stock springs(like chevy or waggy springs) i.e. bustanutlys rig.

jim

so...should i just run a new stock length shackle or new 1.5 lift shackle...or does it really matter?....a little more hieght would be nice...what do you guys think?

Marc those look like the same shackles I have on my rig . I bought them 25yrs ago from Downey. They are called a 2" lift . Straighten them out,use the new bushings and run them. Kirk

thanks...this rig also had some shocks on the rear that had coils around them...can from steves place...manafre...steve told me they were hot in the 80s...what do you mean staighten them out?....and yours really are 9plus inches in the rear?..seems kinda long
thanks

Mark they are more like 6"rear 5" front measured from the bolt centers. I just thought from the photos that it looked like they were squeezed as if the bolts had been over tightend.
