Anyone care to share what they paid for seat upholstery.....Buckets, bench, jump seats, new foam or not.....?...

Thanks.....

Bought my covers (front buckets & rear jumps) from AATLAS1X for $700.00, front bottom foam from SOR $300.00, another $300.00 for the local upholstry shop to assembly, looks great.

I did my front two seats fully original at a local upholstery shop and had them use their materials. New foam and fabric and my total bill was around $950. I get comments all the time and am glad I didn't go with some civic or racing seats

Did it myself

Bought the SOR covers a few years ago and just got around to doing the front seats. (Sorry Shane, but you weren't selling your stuff back then.) Reason I did them myself was I wanted to strip and repaint all the metal, and most shops won't do that for ya. Actually it was pretty easy to do the fronts, except for getting the hog rings up into the seat backs and bottom cushions for the pull-down loops. Added some 1" foam to the original foam pads in the front to plush 'em up a bit. Probably have about $450-500 in materials + my time which is free to me. Turned out pretty good, I think.

Wow Lobo, those turned out quite good!! I had my dad do my rear jump seats since he is now retired, he bought some 4" foam, trimmed it to fit, and stuffed it in. The PO put on SOR seat covers, so that was already taken care of. Some new stainless screws and aluminum washer thingies thrown in on top of that and it was less than 50 bucks and a couple hours of time. I had the seat frames sandblasted and coated when I had my frame and parts done as well.

You have lots of options and with options comes corners cut and materials used. Do your homework on what your budget allows.

There were factory reproductions and they are the SH!T right down to the material being a customer order from the mill and matched thread color (yes that anal) Not for a trail rig.

These pictured above are SOR covers and made across the street from their warehouse. Quality in manufacture is good, but what I dont like is that the welt cord is a solid extruded piece of plastic. this is why it does not match in color. Also being plastic it is going to crack in cold weather and with wear, when this happens it makes a sharp edge and you will feel it and it will hurt like hell when you have shorts on.

Mine however is made from a 2" wide strip of vinyl with a cord sewn in the middle. BIG differance and also the way it was from the factory.

I also have the listing (middle of the seat that is pulled into the seat frame) sewn into the scrim foam and then the vinyl sewn to the scrim foam thus having no stitching across this area like other porduction covers. Takes more time, costs more money but looks OE.

Best,

Shane

I'm pretty satisfied, considering I am a complete amateur when it comes to upholstery and I've never done a seat before. I'd say the best of the ready made covers are either Shane's or SOR. I've seen the CCOT and they are not too good. The metal was in pretty good shape, so all I really needed to do was some wire brushing, sanding and rattle can'd everything with satin black Rusto'. I'm retired, so things like this keep me busy...took about a half a day for each seat including waiting for the paint to dry. One thing I love about the old crusiers is they are petty easy to work on and the stuff they are made out of is pretty restorable...not like the plastic junk newer cars are made of now.

I bought frames, covers and foam from SOR about 5 years ago. $500 sticks in my head for some reason. I'm still waiting to do the jumpseats properly, but I only have $25 into those.

I had my fronts recovered on my 75 about 8 years ago and it cost me about 350 bux.

There's a guy in the 45 section who had these done. I don't know what he paid, but I'll bet it wasn't cheap.

Edit: He did post a price...

"Original price for complete tear down, sandblasting (then me painting) spring re-build and seat reassembly with new foam (built, not a kit) and new custom vinyl (not pre-fabbed) was $375. I added the seat heater kits for $200 and then added $100 for them to do all the painting (prime and spray) with paint I provided.

$675 out the door. More than what I wanted but considering it was $475 without the heaters I'm very happy with the price and the quality is top shelf. Oh and I guess around $75 for CCOT paint? I don't remember."

Yummmmm.....those are nice ^. $475 seems very reasonable to have a shop do most of the labor and material plus painting. When I priced just the materials to recover my stock front seats for my '68 including new foams it was around $400. That was from $OR and doesn't include new paint.

Wish I had seen those 5 years ago. That is a perfect job.

Just had mine done, $600 for both front seats, totally new foam and the vinyl as well. i'll see them this weekend and post on here when I pikc them up.

Can you tell us where you bought the molded seat cushions and the backs as I was not aware they were being made and sor does not show them on their side.

I had mine done by a local guy who has been at it for more than thirty years. My total bill was about $300, and that included labor. I could have had the original 5- or 6-seam stitch pattern for the same price, but the upholsterer said the single stitch pattern does not tear out as easily . . . so that's what I chose.

If you are interested in what my seats look like, click on my resto link below and go to post #33.

I have a brand new "man-a-fre" seat padding set that my son bought me for a gift. The upholsterer used his own material, so I still have the man-a-fre stuff. If you want it, I'll give you a heck of a deal. If you are interested, send me a PM, and I can send pics and a price, and then you can decide.

An upholstery shop put commercial grade vinyl into my bucket driver seat + new foam.
The bill came out to be $200 CDN just for the seat portion.

Unsure if it was a kit or?? But the PO redid the fronts on my 40 with heavy duty material (tops) and vinyl sides. Works great...no more hot or cold seat
