Seat Heater Switches

The only diff in my wiring was having factory power and ground already there since mine had the option. Wiring should be the same other than you'll bring power to the switch and from the switch to the high and low on Shanes kit.

Others have tapped the power seat hot and ground which I was going to do until I found the factory wiring already there.

Hey guys...I recently installed my heated seats + switches using the writeup Chris FJ80 has on page 5. Everything works, but it seems the switch settings are opposite. The seats get really hot when in the low position, and only warm in the high position. I'm guessing I have some wires swapped accidentally. Any ideas as to which ones?

TIA!

I just did the same thing! Something must have changed with Shane's heaters or the directions are off.

Fixed mine. I should've just looked closer at wiring included with the seat heater elements. I got high and low mixed up. Yellow=high and Blue=low. Swapped the wires and they work great now. I'm impressed with how hot they get on the hi setting. They heat up in about 2 min which is on par with my wife's new Subaru.

Here's a quick how to on wiring your heated seats using the factory wiring in the truck and the JDM heated seat switches. I originally made my own harness with relays and such, but this is a much cleaner and simpler install. Thanks to CycloSteve for sharing his wiring layout with me, saving me from hours of "quality time" with my multimeter!

Under the centre console of my 96 LC (and most others I presume) are these plugs:

These are the JDM seat heater switches (photo courtesy of mot). Note that the connectors here are a perfect match to the connectors under the centre console, almost like Toyota knew what they were doing ;)

If you haven't ordered a set of heated seat elements yet there are a couple good sources listed on the board. AATLAS1X is a vendor here and sells them here. There was also a group buy a few years back, and last I heard they were still honoring the discount price. TomH did a great writeup on installing the elements here. I have a set from the group buy and IIRC CycloSteve's are from Shane (AATLAS1X), but the wiring on the kits is exactly the same from what I could tell. I wired mine the same way Steve did his, and neither of us has caught fire yet :D

I don't have any photos of this part, but if you take a look at the truck side of the electrical harness under your power seats you will see two pins that don't have corresponding wires on the seat side of the harness. These are the HI and LO power wires for the heated seats that come from the switches. Steve has explained which wires do what, but I second his advice to double check it with a multimeter first in case Mr. T changed wire colours at some point.

Following more of Steve's advice, I wired the yellow wire from the heated seat element control box to the 12V LO signal; the black wire from the control box to 12V HI signal; and the red wire goes from the control box to the ground on the power seat harness. I used some OEM wire splices I had kicking around to get the HI and LO signals from the seat connector to the heater element control box, and cut/spliced the ground wire into the ground for the power seats. This way you can still disconnect the plug and remove the seats without redoing any wiring.

The last thing I did was switch out the JDM switch body for the oak ones from a 92-96 ES300. The plugs on the back of the switch body are exactly the same, and I compared the wiring diagrams just to be safe.

I like the look of the oak switches in the oak interior. There might be a grey option out there too for those of you with the drab elephant skin interior ;)

Hi all, I'm from the UK and this is my post so apologies if I've done anything wrong by posting this question! I'm trying to source some of the exact same JDM seat heater switches as in the picture above, can anyone tell me the Toyota part numbers please? Also how do I contact or who is 'mot' that several members seem to have purchased them from? Thanks in advance guys!

If your not in a rush, keep watching ebay until some pop up. They weren't an option in the 80 but lots of other Lexus had them installed.

Good thing about ebay is you can usually find the pigtails for the switch as well.

Yeh I have been checking ebay for a few weeks now but unfortunately with no luck so far. If you don't know the part numbers can anyone direct me to 'mot'?

Look up user name mot and send him a pm. Last I heard he is no longer in japan but he still may be able to hook you up.

Contact Dave stedman stedman@japan4x4.com. Just got mine recently from him so he knows what to get

Or just find an RS 300 in a breakers yard

I emailed Contact Dave stedman stedman@japan4x4.com but got a message back that it is invalid email. Did I type it wrong?

I had that idea and haven't been able to find them. I hoard switches from any Toyota types in the yard. I usually go once a month to gather junk for my stash.

The pair I found I had to cut the pigs or spend all day freezing my ass off removing the center console to get to them. They match the oak perfectly and held next to the coin holders its impossible to tell if they're different in color. Right after I found them one of my ebay searches came up with a pair with pigs from a 300 for the same price shipped as I paid at the yard, always the way with me...

I've had a reply from Dave and he's confirmed he can get them for me which is great news but he's asking do I know if the ones I want are the earlier or later type? Any ideas??? I don't suppose you have your invoice to hand do you subzali, for the part number?
