If anyone wants a horizontal lo/hi rocker switch check out the Lexus RX 300 seat heater switches. They appear to be the same type as the lo/hi rear heater switch in the 80 Series...

I bought a pair to place either side of my rear heat switch in my LX. Hopefully they work, if they do they'll match nicely.

That's a nice find, if wiring in the 80 didn't have to be rerouted back to the dash I would have gone this route for sure.

These arrived the other day. For some reason the switches were listed as a right and left, one has a blue plug on it. Confirmed, they are the identical style to the rear heat lo/hi rocker.

Interesting, just noticed the second post, now we know how to make it happen!

I've never seen where OEM switches would have gone, maybe a dolled up LX450 would have had them. My guess is they went on either side of the rear heater switch in the blanks that are there.

The LS400 were the same way, one was blue but it was cold and I forgot which side it came out of. They were oriented vertical but now you've got me wondering if an RS wheel would be a direct swap now.

I'm misunderstanding, does one switch control seat heat and the other seat A/C?

RS wheel, is that a rotary switch that varies heat output of the heating pad?

I think he's saying that he was freezing his ars when outside. Their is no a/c seat switch. You would have to run vents in the seats.

RS wheel is the Lexus model car and I think he's talking about the steering wheel.

My brain was in seat heater switch mode...

Right, frozen arse due to the weather that makes more sense than a blue switch that can cause your arse to freeze! Though I did drive a full load Ford Excursion for a friend's wedding that had A/C in the front seats, it was nice.

Thanks bus for clarifying my jibberish!

No problem. Y'all have a great week! Aloha

I would like to find a pair of black vertical seat heater switches to go in my 4Runner. I am going to check around for some Lexus switches, but was hoping maybe someone had some black ones with the pigtails that they might be interested in parting with.

Also, does anyone know if the round switches that come with Shane's heater kits will fit in a switch blank? I do not want to cut up my console if I can't find a pair of OE switches.

Hey guys...I recently installed my heated seats + switches using the writeup Chris FJ80 has on page 5. Everything works, but it seems the switch settings are opposite. The seats get really hot when in the low position, and only warm in the high position. I'm guessing I have some wires swapped accidentally. Any ideas as to which ones?

TIA!

Depends on how you wired, on the seat bottome just swap the yellow and blue and you'll be on track, made the same mistake too but too lazy to pull the seats out now that the weather is warmer.

You gotta pull the seats?!?! Oh geez. I was hopin there was wiring you can swap going up to the switch... :/

I guess you could do it from the switch side if you have enough room to pull and solder, i was so tired after I got mine in and the fact that they worked and it was cold was good enough for me. I wired them directly into the stock harness on the seat bottom and got them backwards so for me to do it right I'd want to swap them there.

I might be able to move the seats all the way forward and get to them but since they work I've got a ton of other stuff to do on my 80 that I'm OK letting it go for now.

Pulling this thread back from the dead, I am trying to figure out how to wire up a set of these without using the factory harness. 91 didn't have factory harness and I am also working on putting these in my 98 4Runner and this is the most complete thread I have found for using the factory switches with aftermarket seat heaters such as those sold by Shane at MetricTLC.

Part of my hangup is on the need for the diode? Based on what I read thru, it appears this is needed whether you use the factory harness or an aftermarket one because of how the switch grounds during operation.

Aside from that and getting some relays for power in there, what else am I missing to make these work correctly?

Basically, does anyone have any type of wiring diagram that would show how to connect an ES300 switch to Shane's carbon heaters? Or have any direction they could share?

Thanks

I remember posting up so pics and diagrams including where the diode goes in the pig tail. Will look for that thread tonight.

Thanks. I read thru this thread a couple times and checked out a couple others, but they all seem to be for connecting to the factory 80 harnesses. I just want to wire the switch in place of the one that came with the kit so I don't have to drill a hole in anything.

You shouldn't need any relays if you have Shane's kit. Do a test run wiring to the battery and see what happens.

He wants to use es300 switches to retain stock look in which case you need a diode for the leds in the switch to work correctly

Warezdog, I read thru a thread that you either started or contributed to heavily earlier tonight and I need to go thru it again, but I am slowly getting there. I need to get the Harnesses that came with Shane's kits and study the wiring a little closer and try to come up with a wiring diagram for mating the two.
