Why do some OEM seals come pregreased and others dry?

Good question. Part of it may be the intended usage of the seal or maybe the vendor. I can tell you that the greased ones are a MESS in the bins. Some of the crank seals come in bags of 10 and they are slimey...........I see more of the domesticly sourced seals greased as opposed to the Japanese ones.

If I am not mistaken (and I would bet against myself) it has to do with the application for the seal. A seal that will be used for a water passage will most likely be dry. One used to seal out oil or another viscus fluid will be greased. SURVEY SAYS...

The 60 power steering pump seal, greased. Rear main not.

I have to return a aftermarket t-case input/tranny output seal as it was way to big. So far it hasn't leaked. I will rub Junks head for luck.

Oh my, B, if you care, somebody who looks JUST LIKE YOU has been sighted at my parts counter buying OEM seals. The sly SOB even "pretends" to be you and whines if he doesn't get his "Mud" discount.........I'm thinking identity theft Maybe you should worry........ :

Greased or not has to do whether or not the parts guy has tried it on as a marital aid . If you like em ungreased order the larger ones from Dan :

The Seals I know get wet sometimes, but I wouldn't say their greasy 8)
