Wheel and tire choice make a big difference on our underpowered 70's , when I am not wheeling I always use lightweight aluminum wheels and BFG tires for substantial weight savings that translate in better performance and way better stopping power . I love the look of those 16X8 OEM wheels but you loose several HP and they are way harder on your brakes . I think you can't get a heavier wheel tire combo if you tried ;-)

Good point. I do have 5 80 Series alloys that I could switch out. They need to be cleaned up and coated. That would drop about 100 pounds off the truck.

Landcruiser time is far exceeding work outputs at the moment.

Had a leak through the heat riser bushing in the exhaust manifold I discovered yesterday. Pinned it in the hot position and I think I put enough weld snot on it to plug it up! No time between now and departure to tear it all down and put a plug in it.

All, I have a slightly used Garmin Overlander available for sale. Please let me know if you are interested and I will bring it with me. It’s all updated and works great and comes in the original box. There is a very slight scratch on the screen but virtually unnoticeable when running.

How does $250 sound delivered to your campsite in Ouray?

Dang, bummed I missed this. These are pretty cool.
Glad John got it though.

The power of the Land Cruiser is strong even at Discount Tire.

When I put the mud terrains back on last night, one of the valve stems was shot and it wouldn’t hold air. (Why we have spares, right?)

I rolled up to Discount Tire and three workers stopped me on the way in to talk weird old trucks. Guy behind the counter personally left the counter, replaced the valve stem while I waited, and refused to take any cash. He told me that I needed to get to Colorado safely… I still slipped in some cash to thank him. Inching closer to ready.

Which Discount?
I literally just left the one on Ben White getting tires for my trailer and they elevate Sh!tShOw to new, impressive heights.

Maybe. I tested power to my connector and the power disconnects to all prongs in the trailer connector when the brake lights come on. I’ll have a look tomorrow. My converter box may be toast but I am wondering if I have a chassis ground problem.

That wasn’t what I was thinking initially but now I am not sure. I was thinking that Texans stick together like family.

This should be an interesting trail ride on Black Bear with you two. I have bear spray and trail mix.
Carrot and stick for the Texans, I’m reading. You’ll likely need both (not to mention beer), especially for Ben…

@RevISK Bee Cave. I really like Tire Man on Manchaca, but these guys are 1 mile from my place.

I second Tire Guy recommemdation.

Nice. We have no such nice places out here! It's a drag getting anything done, and even worse getting anything done right and with good service.
Of interest - in case anyone had seen these and wondered: I recently picked up a valve stem replacement tool (for use with tire still mounted) - it's a $10 little plastic funnel looking thing and a handle you screw onto the valve stem. I was a bit skeptical.. You gotta lube it up and give it a good hard shove, but it works good once you get the hang of it. Something cheap and easy to pack into your toolbag that could come in really handy. They can get knocked off by rocks, sticks etc.

We will have room to take the hood and headed to salida after sas to grab an axle and some 60 series ac stuff. It should fit somewhere on the 36'gooseneck either in the bed of a 45 or under one of them. Modified some old soft doors just in case it is wet. Put a 40 bikini on a diet to fit over the headache rack. Looking forward to cooler weather, it is miserable here. See everyone soon!

I think I'll be trailering down this year because I have a bunch of stuff to bring. I'll have my hydraulic tilt trailer and truck. It's a pretty good recovery platform if anyone needs it.
