I hit everything with Corrosion X and everything has come off beautifully so far.
Haha I just finished spraying everything down with kroil oil I have never tried it before. I used this stuff called mouse milk forever but I ran out. Going to do it a few times before I tear into it. The part that I am worried about is the 2 little bolts on each of the pins. I know I will have to easy out one because somebody already broke one in the past. but while I have all of this stuff apart, I am going to be replacing all the soft lines and putting new axle seals and bearings in the rear axles. going to be a big job. Ill be sure to take pictures.

Kroil is the best. I’m looking forward to seeing the final result!

saw a really cool fj40 at the coffee shop this afternoon. Parked probibly less than 100 feet of mine (parked at the school) looks like it has good bones! I would love to have this one too haha. Wish I had time to find the owner and talk to them. But I was on a quick lunch break. anyways not everyday you run into another fj40 on Ocracoke island

Does anyone have any photos of a fj40 with a 2inch lift Or 1.75 inch lift and some 750 16 bias ply super tracktion power kings or sta super traxion? I kinda like the idea of having a stock looking old school tire but more of a 32 inch height. seems like moving to a 16 inch rim is the way to go with this? something like the 40 below but with the bigger 750 16 size tire (pretty sure the one below is the 700 15 tires though with no lift.) photo taken from @Tancruiser on a thred about stock tire sizes. this is curiosity I dont plan on doing the switch till maybe next summer.

Still waiting on parts to come in.. I should get the springs tomorrow and the bushings Thursday or Friday! I did replace the breathers on the front and rear axles with some oem toyota ones. The old ones had years of mud and oil caked on them. they still seemed to work but I worried they would get clogged easy.

I have been getting excited thinking about getting some more old school stock bias ply tires and I think I might go power king super tractions or some old school military firestone NDCC. I believe a-lot of the fj40 brochures from 1964 had some equivalent style military tires. I like the STA super traxions but they are a little spendy right now for my pockets. I came across the last picture in this thread Army Tires - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/army-tires.192576/page-9 Love the look of this 40 with these tires. what do you all think??

Honestly, they look a wee small to me in this picture. My opinion and eye.

I dig them.

Some of the highway bias ply tires are cool as well.

But my latest flame are these MPF Superlugs.

I think they look a wee small too but it was a stock size. I am thinking maybe I will get the 750 16 size witch is more like a narrow 32. the ones in the picture are a 700 15 witch is like a 30 I think. I just gotta find some 16 inch stock looking wheels. Might mean saving up for the city racer ones.

Ohhh those do look good. I am still thinking about the sta tires too. I think they are really cool just the top dollar tire.

Put some Bias ply tires on one of the FJ45’s. Did not like them at all. They looked period correct but got flat spots after sitting and wandered quite a bit. FYI, I’d try to drive a buddies rig with some Bias Ply’s first. I think you will change your mind…

Just my thoughts

Ok... the flat spots come out after a few minutes of driving.

And as for "wandering," have a competent alignment shop align your tires. I call bull**** on the wandering thing.

I've driven bias ply tires all my life and don't understand the wandering comment. Learn to actually drive if it bothers you.

I'm still seeing STA Traxions for $124 apiece in various online shops. Keep away from the Coker rip off website and you'll be fine.

The Power King Super Tractions are different than the STA Traxions in that they’re rotationally directional and the STAs are not. I’ve run both, have STAs on both my 40-series rigs right now, and the flat spot issue is temporary as @120mm points out and is a mute issue anyhow if you drive on dirt/gravel roads as I do nearly 90+% of the time. The STAs are great rock picker uppers so forewarned if you like your wheel well paint to be pristine, and to tailgaters 😂.
