This is all from RATTLE CAN?? Very impressive. How many cans have you used?

I went through 14 cans of primer. 2 coats.
20 cans on the finish coat. 3 coats.
$3.49 a can. =$118.66
I still have a couple cans of each for touch ups. I think I'll go buy some more of the "navajo white" from the "Deep Homo" so I have it in case its ever discontinued.
Thanks for the kind words..... It really did come out quite nice. Once I get it all back together, I'll pull it out, clean it up and get some good shots up on here for everyone to see the finish product.

Looks great, What part of Utah you in? I'm in the Bountiful area.

I remember you now! I liked your old avatar!

I liked it too. My wife thought it might offend others.:censor: Although that photo is in one of our bathrooms????

I still can't get over how good your rig looks. Get it out in the sunlight so we can look at it some more!

I should have it all together by tomorrow.... I am finishing up the rear gate and hatch today. I will get the front end parts in today too. It is a bit rainy today. However the sun should be out tomorrow. Thanks again Johnny for all the nice comments and support. Any ideas on getting my aluminum rims black? I was thinking powder coat.....but the $$$$ is an issue. Is there a special paint for aluminum?

I have been looking myself, but I believe that the key is to have the correct primer. I just did a quick search and came up with a couple results for painting aluminum boats. They use an aluminum oxide primer after a light sanding, and once the primer is down you can paint with whatever you wish.

EDIT: search for guys who have painted 80 series rims black. I believe NLXTACY painted the set he put on his 60.

damn good! So now it only goes out on the sunny days? tss...

The dust has it ways of finding its way in there... did you seal the rear vent holes?

P

NO.NO.NO.NO.NO...... IT IS RAINING OUT AND I DONT HAVE THE REAR GATE OR HATCH ON IT YET!!!! It will do rain or what ever else mother nature brings on.....
Should have it together and outside for a photo shoot soon.

WOW...nice work! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Well tomorrow is day 10. I might need an extra day since I took Sunday off..........and let not all forget about golfing on friday with my hot wife!;)

I had a tragic event with my hood. I had it sitting on a stack of tires just like the photo below. However the garage door was open and a gust of wind came and blew it over. it was upside down on the floor with the upper side sliding across the floor when it fell. I had to resand and repaint. :bang:
I also finished the tailgate. It looks sweet. I also painted all the front end pieces flat black.
I will get to the hatch and pass rear door tomorrow. This is grueling! I wish I had more time so I could relax a bit. It is almost over.....and time to enjoy it.:steer:

Thanks for the kind words PINT. I cant wait to see the finished product too!

Whem I started this project 10 days ago.......it was 90 degrees out. This morning it is 29 degrees outside!!!! WTF!

At least the garage is heated. final day! it will be finished tomorrow for a photo shoot.

I know it's a little late, but did you use a Aerosol Spray Can Adapter... they are like $2 and save your finger from hurting.

I have tried one of those..... The paint seems to build up and then big drops fly off it. It did save my finger though.
and yes it is a bit late.
appreciate the thought though.

Great write up. You've done an amazing job with this, Alaska60!! Looking forward to seeing you out and about enjoying your "new" cruiser.

Cheers.

Got new weather stripping for the rear gate and hatch today. I also got new side markers for the front. I am expecting my new steering gear box tomorrow from UPS. Tomorrow I will complete the hatch and reassembly of the cruiser. it has been quite a project in little time. I will post some photos tomorrow too.
