Thanks wengejor! I like the color better too.
Also.....I dont know how much fun I'm really having. But it feels good doing it.;)

Great work man I'm checkin this daily. inspiring the way you just cut into that roof thats the only rust I got, its keepin me from gettin a roof rack. any estimate on the cost of all this?

Dont let it scare you!!! I have a brother in San Clemente. He use to live in Dana point. He use to be the photo editor of Surfer Magazine. Now he is just a photographer shooting suefers, skaters and snowboarders.

It's raining today so I will have a much cooler day. It dropped 40 degrees today from yesterday. No sweating today! maybe I'll last longer then 12 hours today. I'll post progress at lunch and dinner.

Wow, that door looks great! What brand of paint is that? I like the "Navajo White" Keep up the good work.

Here is the paint I am using for the new color. I found this at a speciality shop called "HOME DEPOT"

I have used this paint before when I built some metal tables for our bedroom. I was pleased with the outcome. I really like the way it came out on the door and the hood. I am so stoked to change the color!

I'll post some progress pics below the paint.

I scraped out all the old silicone from inside the raingutters. I used a flat head screwdriver and a wire brush on the end of my cordless drill. Worked great! Got all the old junk out of there and replaced it with new adhesive/caulk. Much better seal now. I also determined that this sealant is the key to keeping your roof from rotting out. The way the raingutter was designed, it wraps around the two layers of the roof and is tack welded. The gaps are then sealed with the silicone. The condition of the silcone in the raingutter will determine the life expectancy of your roof.

And this was an easy upgrade and I could not believe what was living under that old silicone!!!!???
A must do, if you haven't checked that overlooked area lately!

I'll post more in a bit! thanks for the nice comments from everyone too.:smokin:

I also got the rear raingutter replaced with that 1/2 X 1/2 stout angle.

I cut the vertical edge off the old gutter leaving the flat part. I then took the angle and drilled a series of 1/8 holes down it. (shown below)

The holes let me tack it on to the underside of the old gutter. this allowed for great penetration and filling of the hole with the mig. I then cleaned it up with a sander and filled the new gutter with adhesive/caulk. It really came out great. I am way happy with it. It is also sooooooo strong. I want to do the whole gutter on my rig with this stuff. (some day)

I also ended up sanding the entire rig and first coated her with primer. It was late so i didnt shoot any photos. i will in the morning over some hot coffee.:D
i plan to sand the first coat primer and tack it off and hit again with a second coat. 400 grain sand. wipe her down again..... Tack again.... then,,,,,,,,The first coat of color!
Of course i need to pull the rig out of the shop and do some cleaning and organizing before any paint is thrown down. Not mention building a cacoon to paint in. I'll take it in sections to keep the over spray down to a minimal. See you in the morning.
13 hours in today.

Good Morning to all,
Here is the primer from last night. First coat will be sanded today and second coat primer will be sprayed today too. I should be able to get some color sprayed today as well. I'll post some progress at lunch! I also need to sand down the new back hatch as well as 1 passenger side rear door. For now, it is coffee and some attitude adjustment and preparedness for another long day.:smokin:
I think this may happen in the 10 day window.......

Wow! I space for a day or two and missed out on a bunch. Super impressive how you are tackling this so quickly.

If i had the space/time/skills you do i'd be done w/ mine months ago! Keep up the good work!

(though i have to add i'm in the minority seeing a blue cruiser change color... :frown: ) 861 FTW!

Keep it up!!

I am really impressed. The wagon looks terrific.

Has there been any problem with or issues with the headliner while welding the roof/gutter repairs? Any precautions you'd recommend for that?

Again - super job on such an ambitious schedule.

Regards

No worries on the headliner. The roof is made of 2 layers. An inner and an outer layer. I just cut out the outter layer. i did have a hose right next to me though.
Thanks for the kind words.

Sick bro. Nice yob.

I have those extra doors..... I like what you did on the cut offs for those doors. i may do the same for some fun off road doors.??? Thanks for the kind words.:smokin:

WOW!!!!
I just got done spraying the first coat and second coat of finish paint!!! i will take some photos when things settle down in the shop. Man.....those fumes are.................................terrible?
I looks good I think? I have a couple of runs. It was the X2 paint! It also means.....move twice as fast when painting. I'll get the photos up in a bit.

NAVAJO WHITE.
I like it better then the blue.:D:D
i drove the blue for 9 years, it is sad to see it go........
my index finger is killing me..... i lost the dexterity in it from the spray cans.
