I've adjusted carb (Rochester 2Jet on a pretty stock F) to have greatest vacuum (w/ vac advance disconnected), timed, valves newly adjusted, dwell (almost) perfect (any big reason not to get Pertronix, a little tired of points - I've read some old threads on this...), idling at 650rpm, but when all is said and done and we're up to operation operating temp and I've pushed the choke back in and I'm heading down the road... if I pull the choke out a bit I get more power. I assume this is a lean/rich issue but can't quiet make that pan out, ie; I assume it's something simple but I'm stumped!

start with vaccuum leaks around the base of carb and all vaccuum lines. Check by carefully spraying starting fluid "LIGHTLY" around all vaccuum ports and base gasket, if no rise in rpm, replace your accelerator pump diaphragm, very cheap fix, 15 bux tops. Most lightly a heavy vaccuum leak.

x2 on burnttoast's suggestions. What altitude you at and what altitude is the carb setup for? How old's the gas?

"idling at 650rpm, but when all is said and done and we're up to operation operating temp and I've pushed the choke back in and I'm heading down the road..."

Wait a minute, what's the idle at after pushing in the choke? The idle with the choke pulled should be a lot higher than 650.
