Was it Groucho at Rising Sun?

That's it! Thanks....here's the link.

It's showing $188 for 8 clamps....but I can't remember if that's what I paid so add $48 to my build cost....anyway, they're stout clamps.

I also added receiver brackets on the driverside to hold the canopy. The canopy portions slip into receiver like mini tow hitch receivers and then they can be removed when not needed...here's a shot.

Very cool. I like that canopy trick. I'm no welder so I'm going to stick with the ATV rack but you did a great job with this. Kudos.

Just a couple of other points.

I removed the chrome trim around the roof and added RV RTV (Clear) in to the rain gutter. I noticed that the factory putty in the gutter had a couple of cracks from age and just wanted to seal them before adding the rack and reducing any moisture getting in under the RR clamps and start rusting under the gutter putty.

Second- I do get some wind noise from this rack even without the side rails on it. Of course I get a lot of noise when the RRT is on top, but my 60 wasn't built to sound like a Lexus. I'll be adding a wind deflector this summer for a couple of Co. trips so I suspect that'll help with noise and gas mileage.

That's another thing....I was getting upwards of 16 mpg without the rack and on this trip with the rack and RRT I got 10 mpg across Kansas (plus a lot of camping gear in the truck)

This whole truck is a work in progress so I love trying different things and testing them to see what works and what doesn't...right now this RR works for me.

That is one sweet tire carrier! Did you build that too?

I have had the ARB for the last 8 years and I love it. Heavy, yes, but I have had several people on it, four tires on it, camping equipment for days in the desert. It is a well made rack. I do like the homemade ones on this post, though.

 I thought mine was big!

You could keep a spare Fj40 up there

for emergencies

Full length is important IMOP. I used it to carry small freezers and lumber etc.

The rack is aluminum is it's pretty light. I can carry it on its side. But it takes two guys to hoist it on. The hardest part is how high you have to lift it to get it on.

I've carried over to a 500 lbs up there. felt scary.... but doable. As long as the weight is spread out.

how far does the ARB sit off the roof

i really am looking for one that sits close, makes the truck not look as weird, especially since i will only have 10.50s on it. trying to keep it looking as wide as possible

I have 10.5's. Later tonight, I can put up some photos. It sits pretty close to the roof. I would say 4 inches, tops, but I will measure it later.

how do you like it?

I love my ARB. Carries most of my camping gear, leaving more room for boys, guitars and dog in vehicle. Advantages: holds alot. very stout--keeps branches off the vehicle on tight trails--you can climb around on it to load stuff. Looks good--designed with the 60 body shape in mind. Mine needs to be lined up better with the frame pillars.

Disadvantages: probably not the lightest weight on the market. Its a little on the narrow side which looks good but reduces the armor function. A friends wilderness rack sticks out further, making him able to lean on trees better during tight turns.

Wouldn't trade it.

ARB rack, 33's. I love it, dual purpose: construction and camping gear. Way too heavy for one man install. Wind noise is not too bad. The extra weight is noticable even when empty, truck's center of gravity is raised. I wanted an INTI but wasn't available when I was ready to purchace. Slee rack looks nice. -M.

i want something that will look low profile, with 3" tall sides if any. i was looking at the ARB rack, and i really do like that one, and with everything including mounting hardware its around $900. i also want something i can put my spare tire on. and atleast 4 offroad lights, with little or no hassle on the install. maybe a little more weight than just the tire at times when i neet it

Started work on mine. I am with you on clearance issues. I would still like it to fit in my garage. I have 5.25" of clearance above the crown of the roof. I made the bottom out of 1.5" angle and the top is 1" angle mocked up around a 2X4 (3.5" + 2 X 1/8" = 3.75").

I'll post up more in my own thread when closer to finished.
