I have a friend that is now living in assisted living and operating at a 5 year old level because of a interior roll cage and no helmet in his track/DD car. He got rear ended at a light by a woman on her cell phone doing 25-30mph. His cage had padding too but was of little help.

Do not operate a car or truck with an interior cage with out a helmet.

Glad you got away repetitively unscathed.

dafun1, very glad you and all involved are OK!

I second your desire to replace this truck as your daily driver. High Center of Gravity + city roads = formula for disaster.

Stay safe.

Interior roll cages are bad news if you're not wearing a helmet.
I disagree. With the correct padding there should be no problem. I have nascar padding all on mine. I can bounce my head off it safely. People cut corners and put cheap water pipe padding and expect it to protect them. No it won't get racing padding. Only way to be safe.

I could have been at a 5th grade level very easy. Scary how easy. I just didn't think about the helmet part of it. I will now!

And I'm sorry to hear about your friend wheelingnoob.

My COG is pretty low, but I guess it is taller than stock. And uncut, unsiped boggers suck on slick roads.

I think I will wear a helmet now while I wheel though just to be extra safe. Can't hurt.

not true according to the statistics. Even with SFI padding.

Light taps, yeah no difference but heavy hit without a 5/6pt harness and helmet = bad news.

Speedy recovery to dafun1.

Just think about it for a second. If you're hit with a baseball bat by a 10 year old kid, and the bat is padded with SFI roll bar padding, will that prevent significant injury? Reduce the severity perhaps, but you'd still get knocked out

Glad your ok, glad you made it and survived to be in the roll- over club. Mike

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I just drive it back from the towing companies lot. When I got up to it, my back right tire was flat. They had a company shop just across the street and I drove it over. It looked like the side slide had just pulled the bead, and when we put air in, sure enough, good as new. I can't say that for the the PS of the hood, the PS marker light, and the rear quarter area. The hood is just barely touched, the marker light is gone, and the rear quarter area is pushed in a bit. I'll take some pics, but not tonight. My next outing is straight to get a helmet! This humbled me in a very good way.

Cage held up perfectly though. Windshield is great. The 1.5" HREW was enough! At least for a side flop at 30mph! But I drove her home with no problems...

Thanks man.

don't know if you would have fared better on a 30 mph roll on any other truck (roll cage aside).
I agree that selling because of this is like giving up on rigs. But if ur parting out I'll take ur front locker :hillbilly:
That is a sad sight and I'm glad you two are ok.

Glad to hear you're ok...those were some crazy winds that day. Dont sell it yet, theres too many trails you have yet to wheel!!

I think I'll keep it, just get 3/4 ton Suburban to DD and then a trailer later to tow it with. Helmet and padding are a must regardless. I'm surprised this hasn't come up more. Call me ignorant, but no one ever warned me! I was driving dead and I didn't even know it!

Dafun1 Glad you're ok.Hoosier yeah it was bad.I was out there snow plowing 12 hrs + it was fun driving up on Rockrimmon Area:hillbilly:

damn, the engine still ran sideways? Wow, er I mean, glad you're ok!!! Sounds like this event knocked some sense into ya...hardy harr harr....!!!

dafun1, glad you are okay. definitely some scary moments.

When the snow hits my area, the Mud Tires come off and i throw on a set of 33" all terrains. My Rockers are pretty worthless on the road with a snow and ice mixture. My old KM2's were downright scary in inclement weather. Might not be a bad idea to have your boggers siped. Mud tires do not make good snow/ice tires.
