Not a dual setup. No winch. No big amps. No big lights. Just a stock 100. Just need to replace the (seemingly tired) battery in my '06.

Is Costco the place to go? Anyone seeing deals anywhere? Really don't want to drop $285 on a battery if I don't have to.

Thanks!

DieHard Platinum is the closest thing to the stock Panasonic in terms of quality and robustness. If you can plan ahead and wait, Sears has occasional 20% off sales.

Hi, We run Autozone Gold, have for years. They took back a bad one quickly. Mike

Die hard I liked in the 1970s, amassing cranking power back then. WalMart cheep and still ticking 3 1/2 years on 3 yrs warranty, no hassle warranty no receipt needed. Auto Zone battery died under 3 yrs, warranty not honored since they could not find phone # in their system, although was autozone name brand with clear date on battery.

click. click. click. click....

This *#^@ing truck is killing me this month. First the ABS pump assembly... now a battery. Grrr...

Remember to pick-up one of those little packs of grease they sell for battery post. If not used, you'll get click, click, click again. A thin almost invisible layer of gray oxidation forms very quickly on battery post without grease.

I curious, how did you determine ABS pump bad?

Ended up with a Kirkland (Interstate) battery from Costco. Not the "correct" battery (they didn't have one in stock) but just about matched the dimensions - height and width are right, length is a couple inches shorter and match the CCAs and CAs... almost - 710 CCA vs 700 CCA. Hoping that 1.5% difference doesn't leave me stranded ;-)

It has a 3-year 100% replacement + 4-year prorated replacement warranty. Figured for $85.00, it was worth a shot.

I've had:
- Interstate (lasted about five years - that was about ten years ago)
- Optima (Red top lasted seven years, blue top lasted 3 years)
- Sears Platinium which is a re-branded Odyssey (one lasted only two years, replace under warrantly, second one is still going strong)

I would love to know if anyone is still getting five years out of a battery. That had become my normal schedule for replacement. I can't seem to make it that long anymore, and my trucks are totally stock.

11 Years from BMW battery in my 540... replaced with Sears Gold AGM (grp 49). So you yeah it's possible to get a long life out of a battery. The lithium battery in my Casio diver watch finally died... 24 years after purchase.

A zillion variables on battery life... My expectation is the battery should make it through it's warranty period.

Group 35 Die Hard Platnium

I just picked up a Die Hard Platinum battery from Sears and dropped it right in. Oh, and with the the current sale I was out the door for less than $200 !

I grabbed a Group 35 which is perfect depth, and just a tad taller than stock. It looks a bit wimpy because it's only 9-10 " wide but it's rated at 850 CCA's - so it's pretty stout.

an $80 Die Hard Gold AGM 34R battery.

This is what I got last May and it has been great.

It starts quickly every time, even at temperatures <0 when the truck has been sitting for a week.

I highly recommend the Die Hard Gold.

I am sure there are other batteries that are just as good or better, but this one has been good for me for a reasonable price.

I've had good luck with interstate batteries. Anything over 4 years here in Texas is on borrowed time, I usually just go ahead and replace after 4 years. I didn't think about it the last time I replace my battery, but I should have installed a group 31.

Odyssey Batteries!!!

I've been using these batteries for over 15 years in everything from my daughters 1989 1st Gen 4Runner, both my wife's LC and my LC (both 98's), my last motorcycle (GSXR600, don't have a bike now), and everything in between.

I use this one (actually I use two of them): http://odysseybatteries.com/batteries/pc1200_series.htm in my own rig. They are small enough that I currently have both of them sitting in the same location as the factory battery. I have not had a chance to install an isolator yet, so I'm running them as parallel presently.

The only draw back is that they're about ~$180.00 per battery.

I think I've read on this site that there is a Sears alternative that may be cheaper if anyone wants to chime in.

Diehard Platinum

Per r2m I wouldn't run any other battery in my LC than Odyssey...have proven to be tough and worthy of their cost. I also had super experience with Lifeline's but they don't offer proper size for LC...but like Odyssey they are one of only a couple using virgin lead.

Having said that IMHO Odyssey's would be overkill for the OP. I'd just go to Costco, a reputable car parts retailer that has locations where you live and travel (just in case you need to exercise the warranty) or even WalMart and get a decent battery with a 3-year warranty...and expect to put a new battery in every 3-4 years (industry average lifespan for wet batteries BTW).

Sears? Too many bad experiences to cull me back.

Check out NAPA's AGM batteries.

I just picked up a Napa AGM battery. Napa's are everywhere and they have a decent warranty...they are re-badged good battery (I think?). Not $250+ either.
