Why have only one when you can have two in the same location instead??
Okay, so I don't have the isolator yet... I just put them in last weekend and ran out of time to do the rest of the it. Maybe in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, I'll just keep them running parallel. ;)

sorry to bring back an old thread, but r2m, does that essentially act like two batteries running and charging at all times, and when one potentially goes bunk the second will still act as fully charged and will start the truck if need be? or do they act as one battery from the start and die in unison?

The way they are wired in that 2/21/14 post, those 2 batteries live and die together. r2m mentions wiring them differently someday with an isolator between them, but in the last post they are in parallel and their fate is tied to each other.

FYI....at least at Toyota of Dallas, they are selling re-labelled Interstate batteries. Parts department says the fellow that delivers them puts the Toyota labels on them when he drops them off. They used to use Exide, but switched for some reason unknown.

Guess I should add my 2 cents here as well (to an old thread)...

Back in September 2004 I cringed as it was a bit hard finding a properly sized aftermarket battery (with the terminals correctly placed). I ended up going to the Toyota dealer and shelling out $106.73 (+tax).
Well, that Panasonic (updated) Interstate battery came with 84 months warranty (pretty good...), but I could not use it as the battery lasted more or less to the day 10 years and 11 months (or 131 months...). Should note that I'm in the Pacific Northwest, and we don't have that "Texas heat" that kills batteries prematurely.
Going back to the same dealer tomorrow and picking up the same battery, priced now at $119.95 (+tax) (cheaper than many aftermarket brands).

In my view a pretty decent deal, considering all factors, size, capacity, warranty, ACTUAL life span.

And if I still lived in Texas (did back in the 90ies) I'd go to Mr. Toyota and buy the battery with 84 months warranty and likely get free batteries for the life of the truck...

I would have purchased the dealer battery, had they not quoted me more than 10x the price you paid. It (OFI OEM) was the best one I ever had.

I incorrectly stated above that I pulled out a Panasonic battery that lasted over 10 years. Panasonic was the original battery I pulled in 2004 (lasted six years...), and then replaced with a Toyota OEM (made by Interstate). That battery lasted 10 years and 11 months (in my view outstanding!), so today I dropped in the very same battery from the Toyota dealer. Still made by Interstate.

Also, the battery carries an 84 months pro-rated warranty. 24 months "free" replacement, and then staggered down from that. If the last one is any indication, this battery will outlast the truck (OK, still only 121K miles, so maybe not...).

Panasonic was the Original Factory Installed (OFI) battery I pulled in 2011, it last 10 years. Dealer quoted me ~$2,000 for new Panasonic, I passed. Although a great battery, for the money I went to Wal-Mart the third battery as no receipt need for warrantee.
I'll defiantly try Interstate 84 month battery next time. Which should be soon, as my 36 month battery is at 48 months now.
