Merry Christmas to you and the 40. Great feeling to be always improving your “anything”. I picked up a set of 3.70’s for my 75 but it got cold and I have been improving other areas in the house. Can’t wait for that install to start as well

quick poll for those reading this thread. Ive typically used rtv on my diff inspection cover. the place i bought the diff from sent a cork gasket. what would you choose? and cork dry or with gasket maker? so right now i have the cork but no rtv. what would you do?

I put FIPG (very thin) on the paper gaskets that go between the carrier and the axle housing, but dry cork between diff cover and housing. That way, you can sometimes remove the diff cover without ruining the gasket/having to do a bunch of scraping.

I’ve been using the copper spray on my cork gaskets, saw Georg @orangefj45 using it on a cork oil pan gasket and that was enough for me.

The cork gaskets are ONLY used on removable diff covers. Do NOT use them between the third member and axle housings.

We don’t use diff gaskets at all ( on either side of the housing ); we use only FIPG.

thanks guys. absolutely only cork for the cover. i have the proper paper gasket for the third! that’s not debatable for me. just the cover.

working on my steering wheel while watching hockey! good saturday afternoon!! this was a cheap wrap and i was very worried it was the wrong size as it felt too small but it’s actually fairly stretchy and is a perfect fit.
did a little epoxy fix. more to come on the hub.

i did notice that when i hit my horn it gives a little beep and then stops but my 4 ways flash too. wth?

I’d start by checking the grounds. They’re usually the culprit when unrelated systems do weird things.

threw my back yesterday so had to take the day off. had a physio friend over last night and he offered to work on me. i feel good enough today to lift 90lbs while laying on my back . anyway diffs in and buttoned up. just waiting for rtv to dry. didn’t use cork in the end. figured i’ll do what has always worked so. got my wife to pick some up while in town this morning!! she’s so good to me!

. well this diff has the wrong driveshaft flange on it despite being very clear i needed it for a 1977 drive shaft. this one has a fine spline pinion which i dont have on hand with the correct bolt pattern. i’ll have to order one now (extra$$) plus i needed my truck monday which isnt going to happen.

I haven’t t done it, so take this with a grain of salt-
I think you can redrill the flange for different patterns. Otherwise how are the roads? Could you get by with front wheel drive?

i thought about that but my flange doesn’t leave enough metal from the edge to let me feel comfortable doing that. it’s not a round flange. one way ovals the holes. 90 off and it’s too close to the edge. i’ll just wait and borrow my parents car for a few days.

now i’m starting to have to haul 3 kids around at a time for their activities so i needed to install my second jump seat! some riv nuts and bolts and were off to the races

then i decided to try and make red a little safer with a passenger side mirror. i got the “relocation” kit from cool cruisers. the mirror is great but the kit to install it is absolutely . now i have three big holes in my door and while its solid now it was a pain and i bet it’d get pulled off pretty quick with a small tree branch or bush. . oh well. i know how to weld so i can fill the holes if that happens. i’ll be happy to have it. i just hope it stays on!!

Rogga, fully understand. I ran the door hing mounts on 1.0. Good solid mounting point.

I think you’re 100% right though about the vulnerability aspect..
