Yes, the black box is not a piece of Toyota factory hardware. I’m not sure where you are going with this.

Whether Toyota automatic or Toyota manual transmission, there is no way, that I know of, to get down to 120:1 and lower using an exclusively Toyota power train.

Oh, didnt think most people use the torque converter multiplier in their gearing calc.
Number of engine revolutions for number if axle revolutions.

Since you'll never get an auto to lock up that low, it seems legit. I just stole Slee's math.

The math is all in my build thread somewhere.
My entire point earlier today was that, as much as I appreciate manual transmissions, and agree that the auto box saps power, with an exclusively Toyota power train in an 80, for rock crawling, the slushy auto is preferred over a manual because the torque converter helps multiply torque and put power to the ground more controllably and usable.

Your transmission has less to do with your 224:1 than that black box.

It makes sense, but with decades of playing with this stuff I've never seen anyone calculate it that way.
I've seen it done both ways. The slower crowd seems to include the TC multiple more often. I used to calculate static ratio for years, but found it wasn't a good representation of the number of wheel revolutions i was getting at a given RPM.

The way it sits now, 1,000 RPM is about 4 wheel RPM. That data is more useful to me in the real world than what ever my static ratio is.

Agreed, and TBH i actually don't use low-low very often. It is nice to keep the rpm up for the steering though.

I leave the AC on all the time for this ;)

The black box is sweet, I don't know of any other 80- LX that has one.

No mater the gearing I prefer a auto ! One foot on the break and one on the Gas for best control

Agreed. I like the control.

Going to have to upgrade the brakes though. Low-low overcomes them pretty easily, even just off idle.

Time for a hydro booster.

I ditched my cruise control the day i got my 91. besides who needs cruise control when you have close to 100awhp on a 6800 lbs rig...lol
