Hmm, that sounds like too much trouble. I think I will just rebuild my box.

Stock box = easy

why does that sound dirty:grinpimp:

it is a harpoon though, I always have fear while driving a cruiser without a collapsible shaft.

Ok, so I got the rebuilld parts from CDan today( upper bearing 97600-30206, lower 97609-30205, seal 90311-32014). I didnt order the bushing because toyota doesnt offer it anymore. Hopefully I wont need to replace it. I was wondering if the only special tools I need are a steering wheel puller and pitman arm puller? I am going to be diving into this project tomorrow. Thanks.:)

Chase, there are different grades of pitman arm pullers, and most of them are CRAP! If you don't have a place that will rent you one, then make sure you ask about the warranty BEFORE you buy one.

Remember, that pitman arm has been on there for 40 YEARS!

I think there might be an autozone nearby(i think they rent tools). Thanks for the heads up on the puller, Ill make sure I get one with a good warranty.:) I will also have a torch and a BFH at my disposal.:D

Try not to use the torch. Tapping a few times on the side of the pitman arm with the BFH after each crank on the puller usually does the trick.;)

Good luck.

Cool, thanks. Ill give that a try.:) Hopefully all goes well tomorrow.

Well, I got about half way done today. I stopped because I couldnt get the oil seal out:rolleyes: . I need a seal puller:mad: The pitman arm was sure fun to get off, It took about a half hour of slowly turning the bolt, hitting with a sledge and very liberal use of PB blaster. This was using a cheap puller from NAPA(had a warranty though). Should be finished by the end of the week.

I just started my summer internship so I could only work on it a couple hours each day this week. I did finish rebuilding the box yesterday and painted it up. I am going to finish the installation today and hopfully drive it home from my uncles ranch tonight. I had to take out a couple shims but not all five. The bearings were in great shape. Only have an inch of play in it now. Cant wait to test out the new box:D

Got it all done this evening. Can really tell the difference.:D
