Hi all,
Hoping to get some guidance. I have 19 Premium, 37,000 miles which has been diagnosed with a left rear bearing failure by the dealer. I've been chasing this one a while.. Humming noise starting around 30, gets worse at 40 and up. Since the car is Certified Pre Owned, I took it to the dealer thinking I'd let them deal with is as I understood it to be covered under the warranty when I bought the CPO.

Today when the service guy called back, he said the cost of a rear bearing replacement is about 2000$. Seems a bit nuts. I looked up the bearing here and it looks like it's 350$. I looked on the forum and don't see any 460 rear hub replacement videos, so I thought I would ask everyone if they are knowledgeable with what's involved. I do all my own wrenching (99 Land Cruiser, 00 Tundra) and if it's like the rear bearings in my tundra, the axle would need to be pulled and a pressed used to replace the bearing. I do have a press and did this same work and I know it's somewhat involved. The odd this is that the rear hub looks like the front hub and which is really an easy fix. I'm guessing I'm missing something quite involved given the $.

Thanks!

So it does look like it's a similar exercise as putting on new bearings in my 00 tundra. Forerunner has the same part. Looks like my press will get a workout.

If it is Lexus certified warranty then it should be covered. I thought it was 7 years and 100K miles. You need to complain more.

I bought that tool of ebay and it does makes the change fairly easy. It cost about $200 once he credit some back for the inner race tool.

Getting Koyo from reputable retailer along with the retainer, seal and circlip is recommended. The rear bearing are side specific so make sure you order the correct one.

I bought a similar kit for my tundra. Hoping to straighten out the CPO and warrenty on Monday. I bought it cpo from a Lexus dealer and took it back this morning to diagnose. Apparently they hadn't entered the sale into the system because they had no record of selling it to me. They showed the owner as someone in another state (prior owner). That explains why the lexus app doesn't work too. I scan the Vin and it won't register. These clowns aren't inspiring confidence.
