Morning men , I've tried a couple searches of old threads but I am striking out on what I'm looking for . I'm nearing the final stages of reworking my soa 40 , I ended up redoing a cut n turn and new spring perches with a kit from ruff stuff . I had to add a couple springs back into my front packs because the tie rod was contacting the flat packs after I set the caster angle. So now with the front end set correctly now it sits higher of course in the front end . I'm going to add a couple more leafs to the rear packs to even things out again , my new 37's just showed up the other day and.when I eyeball things it looks to me that I should flip the rear springs in order to center the tire in the tub wheel openings a bit more . I'm thinking I'm on the right track just looking for some assurance that this is what others have done , surely I'm not the first . The new boots look giant compared to the old 35's.

highly recommend. do you have an anti-wrap bar? You'll need one.
If you can get some stock FJ60 rear springs those work really well as they're a bit longer and have the bigger bushings

Won't flipping the springs around move the axle back about 3"?
That's what I've heard and read on here , but that's what I'm trying to accomplish. I realize I'll be getting into driveshaft length issues also , but I'm prepared to address that at the end .

No I do not have a anti wrap bar yet , I did years ago have some new spring perches made that are 10" long that I think help a bit with axle wrap . I'll look into the 60 springs tho , I do know of one close to me that I think the guy may part out . I do have some spring packs from a 75 series but they are pretty long .

When I did my rear springs, I used FJ62 rear springs on Rough Stuff mounts welded to the back of the original front mount. I flipped the rear mounts 180* and rewelded. I also removed about 6 inches from behind the wheel opening and added it back in the middle of the arch. Put the rear 40 springs on the front and removed the bottom leaf from the pack after the picture to level things up. Gave me enough room for these 35's or for 37's.

with stock 40 springs it's like 4", with 55 or 60 springs it can be more

He'll also need to change shock mounts

Yep, I think moved the shock mounts to the other side of the crossmember.

Commonly done. Easy 4 inch gain that give the clearance you need at the front of the fender opening. We usually trim the back of the fenderwell opening to match cosmetically.

Mark...

You can leave them. I ran 36” bias Iroks on my old 40 without flipping the springs. They measured out at almost 37” and I never had an issue and it got put through all the paces.

Very few photos of that truck because it was a long time ago and I didn’t have a cell phone back then.

I just did a rear spring flip on my 40 with 37s. One of the best mods! I think I had the driveshaft lengthened 3.5 inches, flip shocks to other side of crossmember as stated.

Not 37’s, but one we recently finished here. We also cut the rear shackle mount off and replaced them with FJ60 mounts about 1.5” forward for better shackle angle.

Did you use 40 springs flipped? What size tire did you run? This is the look I'm going for, nice job! I just got a pair of Budbuilt rear quarters with the factory size/style wheelwell opening only had them move it back 3 inches. Now I need to move the axel back to match.

Yes, it’s a regular OME 2.5” spring.
That’s just a 33x10.5 on stock wheel.

I would have to check my notes but I think we move the arch back 5.5” or 6”
Axle spring perch and u bolt plate are drilled to move axle 1.25” forwards from spring pin

Thanks for the info, hope mine looks that good someday...sorry OP for the hijack!

I'm gonna copy & paste everything you did here on my '69. Looks so good!
Would be happy to provide any of the parts you need as well as tech support
We also did a 5.3 and 4l60, and new split transfer case. And an FJ80 steering setup and brake booster. I am super happy with how it turned out, I will do a build thread on it in the next few weeks

Here’s how ours turned out with 4Plus flares made for this sort of thing. OME springs flipped. Had to modify the driveshaft and shock mounts. 33x10.50 BFGs. Love the proportions. The bottom one is before the lift.
