So I had some oil leaking out the driver side rear axle so decided to throw new seals and bearings on both side. The picture below was the driver side. I am fairly certain I need a new axle with this wear. It has definitely worn a ridge into it.

Just wanted some other's thoughts and options.

Speedi–sleeve and some paint, you'll be alright.

1000% Replace that bearing and axle shaft, those are both roached.

You know, sarcasm just doesn't come through a text...

You absolutely need a new axle. Or you need to have someone weld it up and turn it down.

You know, reading it back the "coat of paint" should have tripped it for me. Haha. I have already replaced the bearing but noticed the axle as I was inserting it back in. I appreciate the feedback boys.

FWIW, the axle bearing journal should be as smooth as the inside bore of the new bearing. That'll give you a good indication of what the surface requirement is.

Just need someone with a lathe. Axles are forged, you can weld on them. Just need to make sure you get the hardness right. I believe you can still get new axleshafts from Australia if you can't source them here, but a good axle manufacturer might be able to even cut you some new ones out of 1541 here in the states.

I've had full floating rear axle spindles repaired by metal spray welding, but that is not cheap.

Australia never got semi floating axles like yours, not the place to find replacements. I would look for a good used complete rear axle.

As stated, you need new axle and bearing. Perhaps on the other side, too, since that side is so bad. My guess is diff fluid was low/never changed/contaminated or all three. Diff and side carrier bearings should be checked, also.

The suggestion to try and find a good used complete rear assembly is a good one.

FWIW, CruiserMatt's shop is about a day's drive from you.

I was able to get a used axle. I already have replacement bearings as I was swapping seals anyway. I just changed the oil the day before it went. I used Valvoline 80-90 oil had about 300 miles on it. I am assuming it wasn't enough even though I had the oil spilling out of the fill plug when filled. The pinion and carrier bearings feel fine but I will try to get a camera in there to see. The passenger side I am not sure yet as I havent pulled it.
