And some video of the 88 Dakar, lots of cruisers spread out in this video along with other cool rigs.
It's in French, but the rocking 80's soundtrack is worth it.

around 53 minutes there is a 73/74 and helicopter and they are close!

Price list from 1989. 70 and 60 series

View attachment 1911497
I’m curious about the second option on the list: a SWB with a 4.0 diesel? Would that be a 2H? I wasn’t aware that SWB and MWB 70’s came with 6-cyl diesels until 1990 with the 1HZ.

Nearly $60k for a top of the line high roof 60. That is crazy and a pile o’ cash.

In 1990 I bought a 1987 FJ60 with 40k miles on it (like new) for $14k.

Cheers

Yes the 2H came in several swb models , it even was available in the 40 series , first years it was just the H but later the 2H . I have never seen an HJ70 in Europe but I did see a few in Central America.

I don’t think any HJ70’s exist.

I have never seen one in Latin America that wasn’t swapped in.

Yes lots of HJ75’s but that is Troopy or pickup. Which I have seen in as late as a 1991 which also still had the H42 trans as well. 2H sold in 40-series is a HJ47, sold only from 1980-84 and only in Troopy and pickup.

There is no HJ70 listed or on any other site I can find or in any FSM. Hence why I don’t think it exists.

And on that note, Joe you have said and called out other people on social media saying the HDJ78/9 didn’t exist but a quick look at any online parts listing shows otherwise.

Not real sure why an HJ70 is shown in the above vintage price listing, perhaps a typo or error?

Cheers

I have seen some swb 70's and 40's with 2H but I never bothered to find out if they where oem or not , just mentioned that I have seen some and the fact that Toyota makes so many versions for different markets makes it hard to come up with actual proof ….. and yes I did not know at that time that they actually had made HDJ78's I am sure you will bring this up several times after this thank god there are real experts like you here Ian

Why be a dick Joe?

I have never claimed to be an expert in anything let alone 70-series.

It is not that hard to communicate here or on social media by sticking to the facts and speaking to a person with respect.

Oh Ian life is to short for this dude !

You guys are both respected guys and this stuff is petty and personal. My suggestion: clean-up your last few posts and move on. (or take it to the Private messaging). Let's keep the thread about pictures.

Thanks but I am not editing my posts.

The part you quoted of what I said I stand behind. It happens here on mud and across social media. I am not talking about just Joe, many people do it.

I am sure we can all agree sticking to the facts on a Land Cruiser forum in the 70-series technical section is a good thing. Not posting snide or condecending comments, whatever up to the individual.

Cheers

Team ACP raced the Toyota Land Cruiser BJ71V named "Toyota Naruhodo", in the modified diesel category of the marathon class and captured first place. Driver Ratet finished 4th overall, and Toyota swept the top three positions in the unmodified production category. In total, Toyota won two championships.
