Dynamat says minimum 30% coverage on a panel, I am more than that. I stuffed it as far as I could up in panels and down in the nooks and crannies without affecting any drainage.

Cheers

My hands are pretty beat up from the last few days of work.

Stuffing your hands down in all the nooks and crannies will do that. Not a job I would recommend for the fun factor but worth the effort and pain.

Toyota did not put much sound deadening in these trucks, they are basically tin boxes on wheels. The ridges built into the rear floor are serious though from an engineering standpoint, super strong the way the ridges are stamped into the floor. I learned about all this years ago restoring old Nissan Patrols when we were making floor pans for it. One thing is for sure, the way Toyota built the ridges (rise, shape, width) they intended these trucks to carry a lot of weight.

On that Nissan Patrol note; the old Patrols and new ones as well have a fully boxed frame like an 80-series. I would flood the frame on those trucks with Rust Bullet (like POR15) and then rotate the frame, leave one end high, blow the paint around in there with compressed air and whatever I could do to get a coating inside the frame. I would keep doing it until the paint was sweeping out of the seams in the frame rails. It worked good. I have used some of the same techniques on this truck to get the POR15 in deep areas I couldn’t reach with my hands and a brush.

Cheers

After a lot of hours of prep I am finally down to the last stage before paint on the floor.

The POR15 metal etch which is acid based. Soak, wash off, let dry completely and I am ready to paint.

Cheers

Props to you for taking this on, POR is great but man is it a pain to work with, takes days to get off your skin.

Thanks and indeed!

It cured out super nice over night with a space heater on it. No wrinkles, no blisters, nothing that shouldn’t be there.

Any areas prone to rust are now sealed up nicely.

Today will be fun, laying down the Dynamat.

I filled it in with the rems but still need more for the wheel wells. I ordered that last night.

So that’s 72sqft, I would say it is 80-85 once I am all done. I did go very high up in the doors and rear quarters, nearly up to the glass. FYI, for anyone thinking of Dynamating their truck.

I forgot to mention I had a bunch of new body plugs on hand so plugged all the holes before laying down the Dynamat.

I ordered enough of this to do the front but may order enough to do all of it.

I went ahead and put some of the Dynaliner down. It makes a HUGE difference. Not pictured but both sides are done.

I have the new rear sliding window assemblies ready to go into the truck.

Video of the Dynamat and Dynaliner results, knock knock!

Few things have been added to the build. The owner wants the engine in tip top shape with anything I think it needs done to it. So.....
-Installing a pre-filter.
-Installing a catch can.
-Getting injectors rebuilt.
-Pump tuned or rebuilt if needed.
-I may go through the p/s pump since I have a rebuild kit for it.
-I may go through the oil pump.
-Check & adjust valves as needed.
-As already mentioned, 1HZ flywheel going in with Exedy Safari Tuff clutch.

I already have the new fan to install. Um, what else? I have the pickup with screen for the fuel tank along with the check valve and the sending unit so will be dropping the tank. I have a new OEM fuel filter to install as well. Can't think of much else the engine needs or could need in the next year or two. I will check the glow plugs but P/O replaced them and the truck has always started easy for me.

Cheers

Looking good.

You should convice him to swap out that 1PZ for a 1HZ. I know a guy selling one soon. :D

Heh, ya.

I may want it, got some project ideas brewing. Won't be hard to sell though, it runs strong.

He bought this truck for his run around truck. He has x2 HDJ81's, you seen one. He will keep one of those for bigger trips out of town or whatever. So I guess I am getting at, he doesn't need a 1HZ in this truck!

;)

Cheers

I went lighter on this color match. Less red too. The paint shop could have gone darker but I am ok with this. Still matches the plastic parts in my opinion but if I don’t like it once assembled the only plastic piece in the dash that is brown can be replaced with black.
