For Sale PTO Winch Mounting Shims (group buy)

If shipping within USA I would imagine multiple sets shipping would stay at $10 total. Should be able to just put as many as will fit into a small flat rate box.

They’re just going to be complete sets of 4 - the guy at the casting place is really doing me a favor when he runs these so I don’t want to over complicate it for him. If you don’t need the others I’m sure you could easily sell them on here or ebay.

I’ll see if I can find that other winch restoration thread and post this link in there. If anybody else has the link please send it over or just post a link to this thread over there so folks are aware of it.

As I mentioned it’ll be a month or so before he runs these so I’ll keep you all posted! Looks like we will be making quite a few.

The PTO thread is titled Winch Restoration on page three in the 40/55 section.

One set for me please.

I would like to in for a set also

What do these shims shim and why?

What do these shims shim and why?
How much shim could a shim shim if a shim could shim???

The shims are meant to basically be “spacers” between the winch and the chassis when it’s mounted. My understanding is they’re just there to get the winch to the proper angle. Usually they’re missing - especially the smaller ones. Someone removed the winch at some point and misplaced them. Not sure what happens (if anything) if you don’t have them but if you want to do things “correctly” these belong in your OEM winch setup.

There is a current thread in then40/55 section on restoring a PTO winch. Would post there with a link. Since your doing this as favor to the group verses trying to sell what you already have can't see an issue posting there.

Thanks @scoobiedubes. I looked at my ‘65 setup, and it does look like the rear shims help with leveling the winch where it mounts to the frame as the frame is coming off the bends from the front axle clearance. Looks like I just have the larger shims there. Is there suppose to be a smaller set there as well or are they for clearance for the front of the winch, maybe bumper/gusset clearance? I don’t have a stock bumper and the front winch mount was modified at some point in time. My winch is not functional (have everything) but I might get it going sometime here in the near future. The SBC oil filter is an issue with the pto shaft though.

The plane on the winch front and back are even. The frame the mounting point at bib angles down. Never had the top wedges missing.except for a loose winch I bought that was on a 77 FJ55. Didn't get the frame extentions but did get the flip lock for the shifter. $200 guess I shouldn't complain.

Pretty surprised myself, The last 3 pto rigs I have owned all had there shims!!! Guess they got tossed for the iconic 8274!!! In the early 70’s!!!

Guess all the Warn around me were on jeeps. Probably the only reason found OEM winches they were a direct bolt on to a jeep.

They fit below the frame on the back of the winch. Keeps the top and bottom on an even plane.

I borrowed a set of the original winch mounting shims from @Living in the Past and dropped them off at a local casting shop for reproduction today. This is a friend of a friend that does this for me from time to time when I have small parts that need reproducing and he can just throw them in with some larger pieces they're doing, so this is a one-time deal. A set of 4 (2 large and 2 small) is going to run us $50 for the set plus $10 to ship so $60 total. Not collecting any money right now but if you want a set please reply to this thread with your quantity so I can make sure that we make enough. Again, won't be able to do this again down the road so make sure you get what you need now. Not making anything on this just passing the deal along to anyone else with a need.

He's going to let me know in a few days when he plans to do this batch, but sounds like it'll be a few weeks out at least.
