Yeah, it looks like a rubber gasket would fit nicely in there.

I don't remember ever seeing a gasket of any type on these or the FJ25s Three of the FJ25s I have came from the Factory with the PTOs and no sign of any gasket. I seen a cover that looked like it would work for the FJ40s on Ebay. I think they were around $7.00 and from some kind of military vehicle. I mentioned in a post in the 25 forum a while back but someone said the OEMs were still available.

Ahh, took me a while, but this must be why I thought it had a gasket in it. This picture someone sent to me shows a foam or something filler in there. No idea if it is original or not, but the idea makes sense to me, and there is certainly space for it. It seems I remember a photo of one with a solid black rubber, too, but I can't come up with it.

NO gasket unless it has a different p/n and then possibly it does have one but I don't have one. I will email these pics to Eshan and see what he says. Actually, you could glue a gasket on the backside.....it looks almost identical to yours other then the inside corners have been angled to make it easier to lock in place. Heres the back side.
We can make this piece.. However, it would be easier if i get a die made..

I think the foam is a good idea for rattling purposes.....In my opinion of course

I'm bumpin this to see if anyone would post detailed pix of the shifter linkage....rather than starting a new one........I landed a winch but it is missing the shifter.,.....

Pretty simple stuff there Butch...

Pivot for the lever comes off the tranny cover on the left side....three or four speed does not matter....simple lever, with a flat piece on the bottom that has a hole in it...connects to the PTO box with a link that has a yoke on the shifter end, and a ball-joint end like tcase shift or column shift linkage had on the other end...

In the pic at the bottom of this page you will see both PTO shift levers, the more inboard one controls the rear PTO off the back side of the tcase, and the other controls the side mounted PTO box.

You blind?

Grab a chassis and body manual there wise one....there are many pics of that set up, both with a three speed transmission and a four speed in them....

I'll do my best to post up what I can to be helpful, Butch.

I"ll preface this with saying that I know that all of the illustrations show a straight shifter stick. For some reason, however, both of the shifters that I have came to me with this "S" curve in them. :D

This one is what came installed in my FJ45.

This one came as part of a set from a dealer back east, and is installed on my FJ40.

My guess is that the S curve is there to help prevent barking one's knuckles on the heater.

These photos illustrate the dimensions of the stick. From tip to tip, the shifter stick is 11 inches long.

The pivot hole, centered 2 11/16 from the link end of the shift stick, is 1/2 inch in diameter.

If you need further measurements from what these show, let me know!

I'll email full sized photos, too, if you want.

An end on view and measurement of the link to the side mount PTO.

Of course, the "S" curve in the link is factory to get around the shape of the 3 speed tranny and the transfer case.

Now thats what I'm talkin ' bout.......what does the pivot attach to?
Butch

Note the interesting taper in the shifter stick. There's a midline seam, so I expect it was cast.

The pivot screws into the side of the 3 speed tranny. I'll grab a quick photo and be back.

It's the side of the top plate, specifically. Guess it would be the same on a 4 speed, but I've not seen one.
