First this, then Wilma wrecked on the 45 forum w/i days of final build. Really bumming me out!!!
 
glad you and your daughter are ok, hopefully you can get another body and fix it if that is what you want, I hate to think how you feel after all the hours of work, but its just metal, you and your family are safe and that's all that matter...

Have fun with the insurance company, they rarely get someone who is able to play their game, so enjoy it have fun with them, it can be quite enjoyable if you have the right attitude..... :D:D

I hope you fix it I wanted to see it in person in moab this/next year....

damn, it could have been so much worse, but this is still as tragic as it gets in vehicle context. haven't checked this thread in months, been kinda off the grid and hadn't heard anything about this. I don't think I could look at it either, makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it! Sorry Gary.
 
Gary is down at CM with his FJ45/80/100.
 
Don't worry dude, you'll find another body to toss on their. Shouldn't be too hard compared to what you started with. Now you got a chance to touch up all your mods to the frame and refine them a little as u see fit. In the meantime while your looking for a good body work on getting the old body ready to remove. Then when you get a new body you'll have it on in a weekend. Just tryin to be encouraging that the drivetrain and frame are the important part really. Oh and maybe put a cage in their too while your at it for peace of mind.
 
Seen too many threads about putting a cage in a DD. Unless your going to wear a helmet every day... DON'T.

I never hit my head on my metal tech cage even when I rolled it ... I would totally run one in my DD

Why not? Lifted vehicle 55mph come around a bend and hit a patch of ice...roll cage please, especially if you got a family. Or if you got a old person that kinda don't know what their doing as in this scenario...roll cage please. Look at how crushed the roof is, imagine your kids are in their. I do get what your saying though some cages are pretty exotic and over-done or they just get carried away with the bender, but a simple six point cage is all thats needed for most.

And some padding, no good having a roll cage when your head smacks into it during a high speed roll-over.

The thing with cages is that, in a vehicle designed for one (FJ-40, Jeep CJ/Wrangler, 1st Gen Bronco etc.) the roof line is taller and there is plenty of space for a cage that doesn't encroach on passenger head-room.

When it comes to the wagons, the cages need to be very well-designed and engineered and, even then, they often end-up encroaching due to the (relative to the FJ-40 et al) low roof line.

It's not the height so much that I'm concerned about as the side to side motion. Most dd's don't have seats that prevent your head from that motion. After driving a mine site modified hilux with a cage last year I can tell you that a cage can feel rather claustrophobic, although a 60 series is a little roomier.

That's cause you a shorty. I frequently hit my head on the cage in the truck. Tho I have never hit it in a roll. I usually hit it when my head is out looking around. I wouldn't find it to be a problem in a daily as you wouldn't be bouncing around with your head out of the window. Lol
 
When I wear my cowboy hat tho it lets me know when I get to close and can kinda prep to NOT hit my head.
 
An EXO cage solves all these issues. Also, have AAA flip you over and drive off.
 
I think a cage on something wheeled is smart and good. An exo weighs a lot more than an internal. Weight is not your friend Wheeling or with fuel mileage.

Honestly hitting your head and getting a concussion should be the blast concern for a cage. On the street it isn't likely that a well built cage would affect you at all or that you would hit your head.. I know I ONLY hit my head on my internal metal tech when I have my head hanging out on rough trails. I have NEVER hit my head just getting in and out of my 60 and I am 6'2" I don't know what all the argument here is and I don't care enough to read back about it either.

If your cage is so poorly designed, or you are so tall that you bang your head getting in and out or driving on the street, chances are that you are gonna bump your head on the roof area where the door or window frame are anyway.

Bottom line.

A cage is to protect you in the event of a roll or something similar. If you hit your head but live. Guess what? IT WORKED. Be thankful you lived and can see your family.

My metal tech cage has been tested several times and has always held up like it should. I have been 100% upside down where it SLAMMED the side went on the lid, over to the other side, slid and then ended up back on the initial side of impact. It left some gouging from the rocks.

I live in Kansas where there is no helmet law for motorcycles. My point.... bottom line it is your life. Know the risks of what you are doing. It seems safe to add a cage, not something that can injure you, so I wanted to make sure everyone knows of this risk. I have heard too many people injured; granted you always hear of the bad news, rarely the good news.
