Well, the blizzard winds pushed me and I over-corrected and ended up crossing the center line flipped on the PS in the grass, 180 degrees the wrong way. Here's what it looked like:

And here is what my roll cage did to my head at only 30mph:

Man, that sucks. Nothing worse than a throbbing noggin, too.

Not to make light of the situation, but in the first pic, kind of looks like she just decided to take a nap.

CAT scan showed no bleeding in the noggin, so three staples and some rest is all that was needed. I guess a helmet and some padding would be in order. The wifey is not going to let me keep it. It really scared her. I was amnesic for a good 15 minutes, and couldn't even remember what day it was. I was knocked unconscious and had a seizure, then my buddies who were following me got me back alert and pulled me out of the vehicle. I bled all over them though. Ruined one of my friends ABU tops. I'm just glad they were behind me. We were going to eat at Mirch Masala Indian Buffett in Colorado Springs. Unfortunately, we never even made it off base. I might be selling my rig soon. Sad, but not the best time in life to be driving more of a trail on rig on the street. I think this was God's way of saying no. I don't know if my skull would have been in one piece if this happen at 60+ mph. That truth is pretty haunting. It really isn't worth it. I may keep it and trailer it eventually. We shall see!

Yeah, helmet is a must. I'm glad the lesson was light.

Yeah, she probably was sleeping :)! The engine was still on when the tow truck showed up. If I hadn't knocked my head, I think we could have just tugged her over and been on our way. I may have lost some fluids, but not much. I've got to go pick her up tonight at the secure lot. We will see what she looks like.

accidents happen. Glad you are OK. Don't sell the rig just because of this, just learn your lesson.

OUCH

Glad you are ok and no serious effects from the roll.

If you need a better DD then maybe opt for something else, but to me selling it because it was scary would in my mind be like getting thrown from a horse and deciding to just sell the horse instead of getting back on.

With a wife and baby girl of my own I can appreciate the things that my wife disapproves of and I put their safety above all else anymore, and with that, same situation with a different rig do you think you would have fared better or worse? The 80 is a tank and as you mention, without the bonk, you would have rolled it over and been on your way. How many vehicles can that statement be made about?

I have also heard that you should never make major decisions to buy or sell anything immediately after a traumatic event, too many emotions involved. Chill, get better and then decide what is best for you and yours.

All great points. Bottom line, in it's current state, my 80 does not need to be my DD. And a helmet is the next purchase. Thanks for the insight gentlemen.

FYI, the photos do not adequately convey the weather conditions yesterday. There was little snow, but the roads were icy, it was bitter cold, and winds had documented gusts of 60-80 mph. The AFA is a windy place anyway.

Nasty wasn't it Hoosier. I don't think I have been hit by wind like that before.

X2 ^^^^^

I add plenty padding to my interior roll cage in Tencha .. I mean plenty it's all over my roll cage and it's thick I'm not saying will be a helmet replacement but was the second thing I did after my cage was done.

Hello dafun1. My condolences on your misfortune, Colorado weather strikes again. I am glad you are alright though. Please check these three threads from Mud. First one has some pics posted on facebook in message #4. Third one is a 45 Wagon, but Toyota has continued the tradition of building robust Land Cruisers. I believe you should take some time before you decide to sell it. It is the closest thing to a civillian M1 Abrams (sans cannon and Ma Deuce of course) you will get. All but 1 former Cruiser owner I have met regret selling them (all odels, 40, 45, 55, 60, 62, 70, 80). Running around Northern Colorado I now take only the 80 when driving my Mother, friends, and disabled persons around.
Best regards,
Eric C.
