This is one of the best threads to check on....funny how these avatars give you ideas...I too assumed that was your Dad or relative (That guy Wob is another example of probable mistaken avatar presumption). I digress.....good luck on your project weekend....a real treat to see such commradrie (sic?) on this great project!!!

Not to get too sidetracked, but Wob has the ultimate avatar. He wont even sell it.

Day 1. After about 4 hours work.

Quick bit on logistics for the work weekend....

I'll be driving the faux-lux out there for it, and will probably be able to get to the LA area on the evening of the 10th if it's helpful. I'm still unsure as to where I'll stay (with the sister downtown, in my tent in the woods outside of town, get a hotel, ???) but I'll most definitely be there. I have at least until the 15th off as well, so I can probably stay a day or two later if it's helpful. I'm sure on the weekdays my plan to camp out on the beach or in the forest wouldn't work, but how is traffic in LA on the weekends?

It's looking like you've got something to work with there Gene! I can't wait to see it in person--and driving.

Dan

You can turn right on Hwy 58 in Barstow and crash at my place. On the morning of the 11th you can sight see at the sequioa national forest and them caraven down with me on the afternoon on the 11th.

Just a thought.

And it's a good thought. I'll talk it over with my traveling companion. Not sure what her plans are. She's flying out, so I'll need to drop her off probably at LAX, but perhaps BUR would work for her too.

I'll let you know.

Once you see the Giant Sequia trees, your companion will realize it was well worth the trip.

Was able to spend some time washing 20 lbs of dirt and rocks out of the inside of the frame and removing a few more parts yesterday. Tomorrow (Saturday), I go for the interior. The front seat looks horrible, but underneath all that mess is a much needed straight seat frame. Thanks again Eric. More pics tomorrow night.

Pulled the doors, windshield, and seats today. Found a time capsule under the front seat, Receipts from the PO from the 70's along with his name and address, live shot gun rounds, fishing supplies, old cigar boxes, and a note from his son's teacher about him going along on a field trip. Sounds like a great guy. I also found dirt, dirt, and more dirt, hornet nests, animal dropping, etc.

Tomorrow I pull the remaining glass, head liner and padding, the last few things in the dash, and scrape the old gasket from around the door opennings. Monday night I should be removing rust and paint :D .

Look at the up side Gene that's three less holes that will have to be filled on the dash. Mine have always been screwed to the dash two holes for the screws and one for the wire. My first cruiser came without a working horn. I just took the horn button apart cleaned everything up and it worked fine:doh:

Yeah you're right about that John. There's already 2 holes on each side of the dash to be filled from the rifle rack that was mounted to it. Seems this LV saw a lot of outdoor sportsman use back in the day. Living here in Los Angeles, the rifle rack might have come in handy for thr drive to work. :D

Got all the glass and a few more parts pulled today, along with taking down the headliner and all of the padding glued to the roof, and scraping the gaskets from around the door opennings. The headliner was original, I found some Japanese characters written in pencil on the underside. All of the rubber around the glass and door jambs were original too. The front half is ready to go now for sanding and priming for paint. Been loving every minute of cleaning her up but this week things should really get fun.

Wow, I missed the shotgun shells!! I figured in Kalifornia, you wouldn't need the rack or shells, do I need to send toys to help protect the Crusier when it's done??

it lookinf great! You have done so much already, and more to come!
