my front diff lock is currently inoperative. so hopefully thanks to your detailed pics i will take on the rebuild.

So you think the problem with yours was the water and rust build up?

i am hoping i can get away with cleaning it out and the motor not being burned up. wish me luck...
Good luck :p Mine was not working due to being filled with mud. But yea the armature shaft was seized.

Awesome build! I happened to see this rig pull into our local eating establishment and drove by for a look. I was blown away to see the mighty 2UZ under the bonnet. Nice talking to you and you have some serious skills to take on a swap of this magnitude. Well done...

Thanks, tell your wife and kids im sorry for keeping them :D
It was nice to meet you too. Let me know when you want to hit the trails. Im looking for more good places.

PS: I want to check out your wrex

Got my overdrive switch hooked up.

Originally the OD on the FJ is hooked up to the trans ecu so the signal is sent from that to the valve body on the A442 FJ trans.

On the Tundra, the OD signal is sent from the ECU since the trans is incorporated into it.

I originally hooked the Tundra ecu OD signal to the FJ harness, but the trans would go in and out of OD every 1.5 seconds. Looking at the manual it seems though the OD light on the FJ dash will flash if there is a trouble code.

Sure enough, the OD light in the dash cluster was burned out and would flash every 1.5 Seconds once I replaced the bulb.
The FJ trans ecu was throwing a trouble code because it didnt see a multitude of signals that it required.

So, I bypassed the FJ trans ECU, used the wire from that output since it connects to the light on the dash.
Connected the Tundra ECU to it, and voila I have a working OD switch.

I know its minor, but its one step closer to being complete. And it feels great. :steer:

to clear my mind .. you join the Tundra ECU OD signal in the dash light along with the FJ OD wiring .. ? in the same spot ..

Then the Tundra ECU is sending the right info to the A442F ..?

From what I catch first, the Tundra ECU OD signal was in other languaje so the A442F can't underesntand it .. or you was triying to use the FJ trans ECU in between ..?

Means the Tundra ECU send the right ( speak the same languaje ) signal that the A442F needs to proper engage the OD function ..

Im not running the A442F anymore.
I have the A340F in the rig and thats what the tundra came with.
The simple way for me to explain this would have been to draw a picture. So here ya go. Let me know if this makes sense.
Also, I dont know why but when I uploaded it to picasa it changed the color output...wierd. I made the image large, otherwise its hard to see

If I got it right .. both OD signals are compatible .. but now are you just using the Tundra ECU OD signal from the shifter and to the gauge dash cluster .. but how the tranny knows when you push the shifter OD button .: ?

sorry If I'm bothering your so much ..

No bother at all friend. This way its clear and here on the forum for anyone else who may want to know later.

The signals are the same. Just a +12v.
The button on the factory shifter, is what sends the signal to the dash light and to the ECU.

Think of the tundra ECU and Tundra transmission/engine combo as the same unit. Thats why when the shifter button is pushed, the dash light comes on, and also sends a +12v signal to the tundra ECU which tells the transmission to override the OD.

Doe's that help ?

Nice, similar to what I ran into w/ my trans swap, try out your cruise control now, hopefully it'll work now also. :D

It isnt hooked up. Rob had to make a special circuitboard to make his work.
I'll probably try it out later. I have to figure out the wobble to the rig before I would feel comfortable using it anyway.
Drop panhard brackets, new bushings, new brakes, right front abs sensor, and tires.
No fundage right now either...:frown:

toojayzee,

where did you find other write-ups or threads on front elocker problems? I have searched on this site, FAQ and pirate and have come up with very little. google searched as well. i searched with " 80 series front elocker", "landcruiser front elocker won't lock",etc. what did you use to search?

I want to have the most info ready so when i take this on i will be able to put it all back together.

Where is the fuse for the front elocker?

Im not sure there is a fuse. I would hit the switch on mine and the lights in the dash would dim slightly, as if the motor was drawing amperage to opperate. Thats why I thought it was working. If there is a fuse, im curious why there wasnt enough draw to melt the link.

I dont remember for sure but I think the search terms I used for PBB was "elocker" and "e-locker"

Here is the one I liked off PBB, though there were like 30 pages I searched thru to find it.

E-locker actuator rebuild - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

Shoot here's good one on here that I didnt even see till I just searched

I really appreciate it. I got it fixed thanks!

What did you end up having to do to fix it?

lucked out! my elocker motor actually worked. so i took it off locked the elocker manually, turned the elocker on which put the motor gear in the locked postion. put it all together and tested it with the front tires raised off the ground and then road tested. and it works fine now. actually locks faster than my rear elocker :hhmm: maybe it is out of position as well.

Hijack over :o

Toojayzee, Awesome writeup....I read the whole thing.........I have just purchased a 2uzfe and 5 speed auto from an 05 uzj100. Going to transplant into my 1991 80 series. I love the 5 speed auto in my 04 uzj so now it is time to transplant one into my trail rig

Also time to update my old GM pushrod V8 (Holden, like an oldsmobile V8) for a Quad cam 32 valve toyota V8

So my Landcruiser is all set to be all Toyota again.

Thanks for your help, and sorry for the multitude of inane questions, it really helps to have it all straight in my head before i start

Thanks again
Paul

Your welcome Paul, let me know if you have any other questions. Post up a :wrench: thread ! :D

Quick question - Is there a reason you left the FJ80 TCM in the truck as opposed to removing it entirely? I am working on a similar swap with a diesel and I have to replace the TCM with another. I would really like to locate the TCM close to the ECM to simplify the wiring as there is a lot more running between the two than there was on the FZJ80. I ma thinking about pulling the entire TCM and mothballing the wires that run from it to the ECM, and using one of them to backfeed to the OD light feed.

Thanks!

JL

IIRC it was tied into the difflock, e-lockers, shift indicator lights on the instrument cluster I believe were some of the reasons.
Which swap are you going with ? I didnt have to touch the TCM for the wiring. The wires already come out of the connector right above the ECU.

Tor ive been meaning to swing by. Thank you for the spindles. They worked out good, along with the other 700bux worth of crap I had to buy :D
