Keep us updated on how those struts work out. I know I'm not the only one who likes Toyota parts but also has a budget...
Will do... haven't actually had practical experience with them as of yet, since we're still in pieces, but I will report back for sure!

I know this isn't as interesting as pictures of new things being installed, but I'm just adding to list of stuff to take care of while everything is taken apart! All parts ordered and should be here this week...

Also in dealing with the PHH, I believe we're going to just remove the rear heater altogether... I don't see much of a need for it. I'll tell my 9 year old to wear a jacket and the 3 dogs have plenty of insulation to get them through any trip of substance. Also since we're going to take the carpet out and pressure wash (or replace altogether), we'll have plenty of access to remove the interior bits.

Some small updates... things have been a bit slow-going because we didn’t want to put all of those new shiny parts in with a dirty engine bay... and it’s been too cold to give her a real cleaning until today. One step closer. 1 before picture and 4 afters pictures... purple power and that foamy degreaser engine cleaner stuff goes a long way.

That looks pretty awesome! Did you scrub everything or just let it soak then rinse it?

Thank you! Buddy and I did it with a pressure washer (not on full blast), the degreaser and a few toothbrushes and nylon bristle brushes to agitate the junk before rinsing it away... took a couple hours but turned out great and since everything is apart we just had so much better access so went ahead and knocked it out.

I'm gonna have to give mine a bath like this when the weather gets warmer. I'd love for my engine to look half this clean.

That bay looks good man! I need to do the same, simple green isn’t cutting it. I’ll give the purple stuff a try. Keep up the good work.

Just a little more progress... it was a beautiful day and my no-day-job-at-the-moment-and-hopefully-ever close friend decided to go ahead and remove the item that jumped out at us Sunday for the first time... the alarm. Glad I didn’t waste time looking for a key fob, trying to program, etc because I’m pretty certain this didn’t come factory or port-installed or whatever... brain WASNT under the seat. I’m sure we’ll find something fun to go in it’s spot... Anyways, it’s gone and thus one more step closer...

Progress Report 3/01/21...

First off... the crank shaft bolt. Holy s***. Bought someone's "tool" off of ebay to make this possible. Had to use a little heat and a 3ft homemade breaker bar, and she finally let loose. All to replace the crank seal, which was accomplished.

Also pulled the distributor to replace the o-ring and the Oil pump cover to replace that gasket. Both were brittle and not doing much in the way of sealing so I'm glad they're replaced. On the way, we cleaned the grimey distributor, replace the rotor, added some dielectric grease and tidied all of that up. We also cleaned where the thermostat housing goes, and were about to install the new thermostat and realized the one we purchased didn't come with a seal.

Also replaced the water pump. Lastly, cleaned the fan, attached to the new AISIN fan clutch, and got the new belts back on. Holding off on mounting the fan until we get the radiator back in. Next on the list is getting the proper parts for the thermostat and getting that back in, then replacing the valve cover gasket, the oil pan gasket and the transmission pan gasket. We still have motor mounts and transmission mounts to install, and the PHH issue to bypass. But once we get the cooling system back together, gonna put some miles on her to see if the oil leaks are fixed. I also have 5 x 17" nearly new Tundra steelies, that I'll be cleaning, scuffing, priming, and painting Rustoleum Battleship Gray before I wrap em in BFG AT 285/75/17s. I'm in the middle of tax season (I'm a CPA) so time is at a premium at the moment...

ALMOST FORGOT! New Wingnut for the air cleaner. Now isn't that shiny. Also a list of ordered parts from local Toyota dealer... not shown is the Transmission gasket and filter that weren't available for some reason through Toyota... they'll be Felpro from THE ZONE.

LONG overdue update... mostly because of tax season. I’m a CPA and get my ass kinda kicked through the tax deadline.

I bought 5 x 17” FJ Cruiser steel wheels a couple months back and have been meaning to scuff/prime/paint them and get a new set of BFG AT KO2 285/70/17 in anticipation of getting this Bush Cricket on the road...

I finally got my order in at Costco when they had a sale plus a $70 rebate directly from BFG so I pulled the trigger and needed to get these wheels painted.

Simple wet scuff with Red Scotch bright pads and then a prime and paint with Rustoleum paint... getting the tires on Tuesday/Wednesday... not sure if I should opt for some 1.5” spacers... I know Bora is the spacer of choice, but not sure $275 and a 3 week wait is in the cards. We will see! Also I just got em primed/painted as the rain drops started, so they’re not perfect, and the last picture is in the garage, but it’s ALL good...

And finished product after top coat... color def has a little blue in it that you can’t see in the pictures, but it looks great and will look good with the Green girl...

So a few things have happened since I acquired the FJ80… including selling my 2010 Subaru WRX STI for a few grand more than I paid for it 2 years and 15K miles ago… and realizing that I needed something to take my 9 year old and a couple other kids to school in a couple weeks, and the FJ80 was just not there yet… so enter my new daily…

A 2003 LX470, single owner, dealer maintained it’s whole life (except for the lift and some stereo stuff) with 312K miles…. That’s A LOT of miles, but well maintained, I know these rigs regularly do 500K miles so there’s that… please pardon the UGA front tag… it’s not removed and in the garbage 🤷🏾‍♂️
