Built a canoe/kayak/camping trailer out of a harbor freight folding kit 1900lb gvw trailer we were using for home utility stuff.
It was hit in a rear end collision while I was towing it, so I figured I'd just get it done. The crash bent a bunch of parts and damaged the deck, but you can order each part from harbor freight cheaply. I am still waiting on new tow bars and hitch bracket- re used the damaged bits in the mean time and need to realign the stake sides once I get bolts that are short enough to fit inside the unistrut.
Added a piece of 10ft 2x2x.180" tubing to extend the tongue to accomodate our 18ft canoe. Built a canoe cross bar and riser out of unistrut. Made it wide enough for 2 canoes or 4 kayaks on V mounts. Used the leftover unistrut to mount the spare under the (repaired and repainted) deck. Just need to slap DOT reflective tape all over and tuck away the wiring again.
Tongue extension is all reversible.
Oddly the unistrut and hardware, lumber, and steel tube for the tongue cost more than the trailer did.
