Built a canoe/kayak/camping trailer out of a harbor freight folding kit 1900lb gvw trailer we were using for home utility stuff.

It was hit in a rear end collision while I was towing it, so I figured I'd just get it done. The crash bent a bunch of parts and damaged the deck, but you can order each part from harbor freight cheaply. I am still waiting on new tow bars and hitch bracket- re used the damaged bits in the mean time and need to realign the stake sides once I get bolts that are short enough to fit inside the unistrut.

Added a piece of 10ft 2x2x.180" tubing to extend the tongue to accomodate our 18ft canoe. Built a canoe cross bar and riser out of unistrut. Made it wide enough for 2 canoes or 4 kayaks on V mounts. Used the leftover unistrut to mount the spare under the (repaired and repainted) deck. Just need to slap DOT reflective tape all over and tuck away the wiring again.

Tongue extension is all reversible.

Oddly the unistrut and hardware, lumber, and steel tube for the tongue cost more than the trailer did.

Just a quick(?) knuckle rebuild/brake job on the 40...just in the nick of time too!

Found the source of intermittent squealing...lower passenger steering knuckle bearing was gone....a few roller bearings and a mangled cage with associated carnage to the bearing cap was all that was left.

Outer brake pad barely had the outline of the friction pad left. Inner was steel on steel. This is what prompted me to do a full knuckle rebuild because the rotors had to come off. Wasn't expecting to find the knuckle bearing failure.

These are the axle seals from hell. No visible signs of leakage, so they sealed well, but were close to impossible to pull out.

So it I rang the door bell and the rabbit answered come on down the hole!
The rod bearings are within spec. Cylinder 1,3,&5 in pic. But 1 and 4 main bearing is out of spec by .004mm. I’m here I might as well replace them. New main bearings are on the way.

I didn't expect this job to get done started in my lifetime.
Me neither! It’s on the fast track now should be done in 10 years!

@Jakes40 you actually used plastigauge! Slap that thing together and send it lol

Got the transfer case gears out to do the 10% under drive set from Sumo...found out that I didn't have the right puller for on hand for the one of the clusters...Amazon next day with one on the way today. Also going to order a new rear drive shaft while it's out as mine is getting slop in the splines, probably a Tom Woods .120 DOM version as mine has some battle scars on it! PO had already done the Marlin low range crawler gear and 4:56's in the diffs, anxious to see how this helps out on the 315's.

Got the M101A2 inspected today...passed no problem. It sounds like such an easy thing, but a few shops closer to me wouldn't touch it. "Oh, we don't do military trailers...another shop griped Oh it doesn't have the minimum stamped on the drums". Nice to find a shop that was actually willing to do the work and commented that he appreciated how well I had it prepared for them (including the service manual with the drum specs!). Owner of the shop said that his inspector is a vet and enjoyed seeing one in such good shape.

Also got confirmation that my Tom Woods double cardan rear driveshaft is done and already shipped...they build these to order and had it done and off to UPS in less than 48 hours! Should be to me no later than Tuesday.

Now I just need to get the 10% under drive transfer case gears removed and pressed back on again on the clusters (I did get the right puller and I have a 20T press) and back up in the truck...sounds like a fun project for my birthday on Sunday!

Do you know of any local trails for dirt bikes (off road trail motorcycles electric/gas).
Or general off road trails which are multi purpose which allows dirt bikes, atvs and 4x4?
Peter mill run is on the list but anything closer?
