“What am I about to be working on”

Now putting 500 miles a week on my 2009 commuter and shaking out all the marginal stuff. CV boot two weeks ago. This was the latest casualty. Kind of an unfortunate time for it to happen.

So what is this?

Wow! Ship-shape now. That's a lot of work in this heat and humidity. Pace yourself and take the next 4 weeks off from yard work.

Never seems to stop around here lol

Just drove three generations of my wife’s family, and luggage, across Japan this week in a 2022 Land Cruiser Prado. Fantastic truck for the trip. Drove East Coast to West Coast and back- from Osaka Bay through the mountains of central Japan to the Sea of Japan…

Nice...they even had the right color waiting for you! Just curious, I see the wing mirrors on the RHD rigs here in the US, but didn't know it was a regular thing there too...or is that just for the tourists in the rental cars? Seems like it's just waiting to get hooked on something and ripped off of the fender, not like some of the "mouse ear" styles which don't have the stalk that I see on some older vehicles.

They put those on almost all SUVs here. I don’t think off-roading in family vehicles is a common thing here in Japan so not many opportunities for it to get hooked on anything. It is somewhat useful for seeing the front bumper and passenger (left) side of the truck while maneuvering through narrow streets and parking, etc. but with the electronic parking sensors and side mirrors, I didn’t find a use for it.

Additionally, with expensive driving classes and difficult drivers license exams, the Japanese are truly exceptional drivers. In the 20 years Ive been coming to Japan, I can’t remember ever seeing a scratch on a vehicle. Vehicles here are always spotless, fender benders are exceedingly rare- and with very conservative speed limits (50mph on the freeway), traffic accidents in general are very rare.

So what is this?

A/C Clutch?

Yes. Blew off while driving and went back and found it. I have been procrastinating the fix until I have a day of leave while the kids are at school. I figure I'll want to replace a few components beyond the compressor, flush, vacuum check, and the back and forth to get the refrigerant evacuated.

Probably the wrong answer to put it off, but it is turning freely without noise... just no A/C

Been there. Those actuators suck

Yay to cross threaded lug nuts...

Been getting a bunch of things knocked out on the 100

-OEM steering rack
-Aisin Fan clutch bracket
-new hoses, clamps, sensors ect...

well had a fairly frustrating weekend and didn't take a lot of photos but I'm in the home stretch. Started out on Friday when my parts order showed up at work minus the alternator :bang: . It ended up getting to my dealer on Saturday and I drove up to get it so I could keep moving forward.

Got everything buttoned back up and moved on to bleeding the cooling system, I have a vacuum bleed tool but still ended up with and air bubble in the system somehow. Spent the better part of Sunday morning working that out of the system.
Standing there checking over all my work i noticed i couldn't really feel the fan blowing a lot of air, engine running at temp 186* I was able to just reach in and stop the fan with my hand, virtually no resistance  This is a new Aisin unit i purchased about 7 months ago ( i did notice on really hot days the fan didn't seem to be keeping up as well)

So i proceed to pull the shroud, fan and clutch back out of the truck. Figuring I must have received one of the underfilled ones from the bad batch that Aisin had. I used to be big into the RC hobby and still have some friends that are, I was able to track down some 15k cst silicone oil. I pulled the clutch apart heated it and drained the fluid (there was almost none in there:oops:, Aisin has to work on there QC department) replace with the heavier oil. reinstalled everything on the truck and fired to life, the fan roared for about 5 seconds then quieted down and was moving a ton of air (thought i had this fixed:confused:). I let the truck get back to operating temp and gave it a few revs, the fan seems to be locked up all the time now roaring with every rev, even held rpms at a solid 2500 for about a min and the fan never stopped screaming.

So I accepted defeat for the day and went inside, ordered a factory fan clutch this morning ( yes i know its just a Aisin in a Toyota box) that should be hear tomorrow. get that put in, tape measure alignment (so i can drive it to the shop) and a few misc. things ill be ready for this trip.
