Pretty quiet in here... what are you working on? (2 Viewers)

You might remember I inherited a 1997 tacoma pickup from my sister in law. I has served well the last few months but just backfired one morning and the CEL came on and it would run rough until it got warm. Looked it over and darn if it wasn't a cracked spark plug. I have no idea how long the plugs had been in the thing but I splurged and bought a set and changed them all and she runs like a top now.

This was the other day, I have a windshield in it now! No more cheese grater Fred! 🤣

I’m about to go another round of hammering on the fender to make it not so gnarly. It’s a wheeler so whatever.

Still lots of work to do prior to fall crawl.

The cage must have helped a bit, or a lot, in this- right? I would think at least...

Replica tank installed, although the dimensions were slightly larger than stock and wouldn’t fit like original. I had to drill out tank cover mounting holes, not happy about that. Now just waiting for my JimC rebuilt carb for the finish. Next project is to install Energy Suspension body mounts.
How's that tank working Dan?

Don’t know. It’s in, but I’m still waiting for my carb. I can say that I’ll never be able to use the drain plug since the lower portion is formed incorrectly, part of the poor fit.

I thought OEM tanks were still available, no?
Not since covid. I contacted Rubin, a dealer on the west coast who’s on mud, and that was what I was told. Stock tank would have been my first choice.

Over the summer at Coal Miner Classic, I noticed on the last day of wheeling that sometimes my brake pedal would sink a bit before engaging....was a little pucker up moment when it first happened and thought it might just be from overheating the fluid a bit, but was able to make it home safely and continued with the same feel since. Most of the time, the pedal would be perfect, sometimes it would take about half a pedal down to engage and then the same brake feel from there. I somewhat traced it to vacuum depending on throttle usage and tried to swap the check valve with no effect. Went ahead and got a Seiken OEM quality booster and Advics master...and installed yesterday...stops on a dime once again (every time!). The Seiken booster has the Bendix stamping and sticker that most replacement units do not have, so hopefully another 29 years from this one...:steer:

Also did a few little tidy up projects in the waiting including replacing the 4 door plungers for the courtesy lights....now now more flickering interior lights and key ring light when I hit a bumpy patch on the road and can leave the lights set to the door setting so they work correctly when I open her up in the dark.

Also saw this nifty Morimoto license plate reverse light bar ...I wanted something in the rear for more light, but not in the mood to figure out mounting and running switches right now. This one draws so little power, that you can tap directly to your reverse light pigtail (by design). Comes on with the reverse lights and quite bright!

The GR Corolla is too low for my floor jack so I had to build some ramps out of scrap 2x6s I had lying around. The GR factory fits these spring bumpers in the front coils to prevent the shocks from bottoming out during shipping. It's cool they molded in the GR logo.

Installed the Energy Suspension body mount kit. Kroiled the hell outta the bolts, and most bolts spun out, the ones that didn't, broke off via a cheater bar and then came out. Parts of it were a major pain, fitment and install-wise, but one by one, got-er-done. Can't tell you how it feels, still waiting on my carb..., though Jim C says it should be soon.

I did get both refurbished lower control arms (blasted, painted, new bushings and 555 ball joints) in the truck Saturday. The frame side bushings are a bit of a pain and I wasn't able to press them out but the air hammer made quick work of removing them. Pretty much everything in the front end of this truck minus the steering rack ( still sitting on the shelf ) is new. After a quick drive the difference is noticeable, everything feels tighter. Couple more small jobs to knock out the ready for Fall Crawl.
