I made a video (posted earlier in this thread) that walks you through how to do this step by step. However, because I have the mark Levinson amp, I had a professional fix my speakers.
If you don't want to pay 1500 for the labor, it's easy to do yourself. Hell if you were in SoCal I'd do it for a third that price myself.

I’ve got a 2002 LC with nav and a 6 disc DVD player. I had the amp and speakers replaced last year. If I want to install a Tesla style head unit, I first need to complete the nav delete, get the proper harness configurations, and then install the Tesla style unit. Am I thinking right?
No, they are separate ways to delete the nav. The Tesla style will be done one way, this thread shows how to delete the nav and install a standard Double DIN Head Unit

I too would love to get an answer on this, I think (still debugging) that my headunit is shot and if I do have to replace it I would rather move to the Tesla looking headunit. It doesn't look out of place in the car plus very cheap compared to a OE replacement.

There's a separate thread for the Tesla style conversion. Discussing it here would send this thread sideways, so if you're interested in that, search for the thread and I'm sure all you'll need to know is there.
I will say this about it - this version of a nav delete converts your car into a non-nav equivalent with buttons/dials for HVAC controls and a standard double din stereo. All the conversion parts are Toyota (granted, you're handiwork is in there rearranging wire bundles) and the stereo is from Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, etc. - whoever you choose. Should Apple or Google ever change their standards, either the stereo companies will issue a software / firmware update to their head unit, or worst case is CarPlay and streaming audio go the way of 8 track stereos and you replace the head unit with whatever is current at the time. I would not have that same confidence with the Tesla style product. The Tesla style unit looks cool and make a statement, but who knows if the company will still be around in 2 yrs when you need help with something, let alone in 5 yrs when we might be looking at our CarPlay / Android stereos and wondering what the hell we were thinking in 2021.

I am in SouthEast NC and am interested if there is anyone in either North or South Carolina who has done this job before who I could potentially pay to do it? Just picked up a 2002 LC. I'm not good with electrical stuff and have never even taken a dashboard/ console apart....

LOL, I am in the same boat. I have both an 02, so pre-03 that needs this as well as an 05, that I have all the parts needed from the other Nav delete thread. Just need someone to do it. I am in Atlanta, GA and happy to pay for this service.
Has anyone here installed this Pioneer AVH-3500NEX? It popped up on my youtube playlist. Description mentions it retains factory nav (i realize most people here want to delete it). Looks like it just replaces the casette player, and would need a custom trim piece. Maybe a custom harness? I may reach out to crutchfield.
I have an 02 LX with factory nav, and really don't want to bother with locating another climate control unit with pig tails. I'm also happy enough with the Mark Levinson audio.

Did you do this? I just picked up a 4500NEX at Crutchfield for my '03 LC. Looking for the Heater/AC control panel presently.
Nope i haven't. Started looking for the heater/ac control panel on ebay first then it went far down the priority list. Good luck with the install when you get around to it!

I've done one of each - first an '07 and later an '02 that replaced my '07. Given the amount of work and documentation put together by others on this board, I'd challenge you to try them. I am FAR from an electrical or mechanical genius and had never done anything similar and was able to accomplish both using this forum. The '03 and newer is easier once you have all the parts, assuming you have Jerry's harness. It's barely more difficult than a stereo replacement. The '02 and older is much easier to source parts, but is scarier because you have to cut off wire harness connectors, which if you're not experienced and confident, is scary AF. If you read, re-read, and re-re-read all these forums, however, you'll get there.
Both of these are kind of two components. First, you adapt your car to re-establish HVAC controls separated from the stereo. Second, you do a stereo replacement. Finding somebody to do the first part in re-establishing HVAC control without your deleted nav system will be tougher (though hopefully possible). If you could accomplish that part, you could turn it over to a standard stereo install shop for the remainder. On the '02 and older form, the HVAC portion has some real man hours in it - maybe closer to a 50-50 split between the two parts of the project. On the '03 and newer variety, the HVAC portion is pretty easy so the project changes to maybe 80-20 weighted to the stereo install part. On both, the stereo install portion is basically identical once you've done the nav delete / HVAC control portion.

On the 02 and later, I would think that the cost from a stereo shop that was crazy enough to attempt this would be outrageous. It would be over $1000 just to do the Nav delete I would estimate. A lot of stereo shops don't do a lot of soldering either, so I'm not sure I would trust them to do it even at an exorbitant cost. Nothing like having a vested interest in the outcome. You've encapsulated above well how it pans out though. Now I'm wishing I had an '03! The '02 has a lot of connections to be made for sure. Thanx for this info.
You're probably right. What I was attempting to say (probably very inartfully) is that one could go it alone on the "nav delete" portion of the project which is not very hard. From there, you already have fully functional HVAC controls and an empty double din hole in your dash, so it's just a plain vanilla stereo installation that any stereo shop should be able to do at their normal rates exactly as if the LC had been factory delivered without nav. On both the '02 and earlier and '03 and later models, it's converting the car to a non-nav equivalent that freaks people out. The rest is just basic stereo install stuff. On the '03 and later models, I think the bulk of the man hours is on the stereo side, not the nav delete. On the '02 and earlier it's closer to even given the number of wires needed to cut and splice to re-establish HVAC controls. On both, once you've done the nav delete, the stereo portion of the project is fundamentally the same.
