Since it is mid-August, I thought I would start working on the AC.

Coolstream will take my clutch and rebuild it since they are having such a tough time finding the right backspacing on the clutch pulley.

I wanted to make sure the used compressor I had was right on, so I got a new fan belt and set out to install the used AC compressor.

The first step was to remove the high pressure PS line, so I disconnected it at the box and let it drain.

Then I pulled the PS and alternator belts - a little easier said than done! This took more time than I thought it would.

Then throw the AC belt in there and get the compressor in. Tensioning all these belts is going to be a bear once everything is in!

Here it is in place! One step closer:

I am going to have to figure out a different lower radiator hose. One with more drop right out of the water pump:

I've had luck bending a piece of wire to where you need the hose to go and heading to the oldest auto parts you can find. They usually have a back room with hoses hanging everywhere and will let you hang out trying to find the right one. Good luck hunting!

TJ, hope you can figure this out, it looks like an involved and slow process - I went through similar to add a Sanden OBA compressor to my 40, but I had more room to work with.

BTW what is going on with that inner fender?

The 2F's have a special drop pipe for trucks with factory AC... it gets the inlet very low, well below the ac belt. I wonder if 3FE's have a similar AC-style drop pipe.

lower radiator hose. One with more drop
That’s the one radiator hose that was original and not available. It was almost like a p -trap under a sink so that it would clear that lower belt. I’ve hunted many a car parts store rooms. Besides the horseshoe shape it reduces size going into the radiator🤯

So here are the Factory 2F equipped part numbers for FJ55s. To be clear, these are the two bottom hoses separated by a short pipe. I recently found some of these from my friend in Yemen but I assumed the "cooler" referred to the oil cooler. Do you think both version clear the belt or is a third version hiding out there somewhere? Just curious.

90916-01137RADIATOR SIDE1
90916-01142W/COOLER PUMP SIDE

To make things even more complicated, the short pipe assembly which is sandwiched between the two hoses also has several configurations.

On these parts, “W/COOLER” is indicative of AC. The water pump is different based on oil cooler, but not the return routing pipes.

If you check out my 40 thread here, you can see the down pipe that is "W/COOLER" and "W/HEATER". It is part 16577-61120 (the latest 2F part number for this item). It has a bung on the backside that the heater return runs to. And it extends down low below the AC belt and practically straight shoots into the radiator return.

Pablo,

Do you have all the other parts now?
I hope so! At this point my projects take so long I see a box in the garage, open it up and be all like, "oh, yeah, that's where that went...".

I have evaporator and expansion valve in the Pig, now a compressor, drier, pressure switch and new condensor. Next up I need some custom lines.

My booty fab attempt at using the FJ-62 air cleaner is going to get in the way. Gonna have to clean up some things under the hood. Air cleaner, I have never like my post-fuel pump fuel filter arrangement either. Not very tidy. The Passenger side of the engine compartment is about to get more complicated...

I laughed, but then remembered my A/C isn't working either. Pretty sure all I have to do is replace a compressor.

My a/c has been the top off this year. Seems to work and never needs recharged.
We can see if my old 10P15C works!

BTW what is going on with that inner fender?

Inner fender looks like it got scalded by battery acid. Perhaps a faulty voltage regulator from back in the day?

I wish I had cleaned up the engine bay, but I didn't have that luxury when we were doing the swap...

Thanks, this sounds like my Huckleberry, except not sure that that means in terms of changes to my heater lines...
