Wasn't thinking about putting on the attic rack, rather using the same mount locations. Do you think that's possible w/ your rack?

I put my extinguisher on my attic rack that I built (as well as many other tools). Only difference between mine and LCP is I have a barrier and that provides protection for me should any of those things attached to the rack come loose in a collision. I would certainly discourage anyone from doing this who doesn't have some form of barrier between it and yourself and your passengers.

As far as clean agent vs. dry chemical extinguishers go, I couldn't care less about how messy the extinguisher might make things. It's not there to make things cleaner or easier for the user. Like others have said the most probable circumstance where you would use it would be on someone else's vehicle. If someone's life or vehicle is at risk because of a vehicle fire that would be the last thing I would think about or consider.

One thing to take into account is that the device will be need it by somebody else than the occupant of the truck, maybe even a passing helper if you crash..

A.K.A. As easy and fast to spot, reach and deploy as possible..

more extinguisher mounts I've been able to track down:

I have also reached out to another company that only sells to companies to see if I can get a quantity and resell through Land Shark Outfitters for everyone, will let you know what I find out.

Final thought, anyone have a reason NOT to go with CO2? I know it won't deal with smoldering organics, which require a coating to keep O2 from them and reflashing, but I would guess most fires are electrical or fuel based and CO2 is great for both. Plus zero mess and rechargeable....

Silly stupid idea but I'm going to make my mounts out of old ski bindings, everybody know how they work and they are a dimme a dozen at the Salvation Army, super fast quick release and I bet they will not even look that bad..

I think you need to request a name change here to "McGuyver"

Yea, Mr. @Patineto reminds of this guy below b/c he's got a two-wheel thing about him. The real one on a Belgium.

Mister mcguyver is a "imperialist object apropiator'

BUt yes why fabricate something if is already made..??

I got the idea playing with our little girls skis last night, the kiddo binds are so easy to release, but they look the part like their big brother, but you can release them with one finger...(no Walmart quality, very nice binders)

Little background..

I'm a industrial designer, grow up in colombia and from about 1982 to 1990 any kind of imports where close, making models and more than anything working prototypes, was very difficult, sometimes even impossible, I attribute this as a rocket ship push, I learn to interpreter the needs of a function, but also correlate them with dally life objects, specially from my hobbies (skate-skateboards, bicycles, hangliders/paragliders, windsurfing..

Plus I did not have many tools, chose a microscope instead of a drill for my first communion, big mistakable, now I have like 20 of everything..

Other side note, take a look at my bicycle rack, all made of reused parts that make sense for their function..

Thanks for posting up @nnnnnate. I remember that you followed @Odyseuss' install. I think the 3rd-row grab handle might be a decent location. Do you happen to have any photos of how you installed the bracket using u-bolts? I'm sure I could figure it out, so am just asking.

Sorry, I had a busy weekend and missed this.

So there are holes already in the mount that was linked to on amazon. They lined up with the u-bolts and you can get 3 of them on the bracket. I don't remember specifically what size u bolts they were but I took the bracket with my to lowes and just checked with what they had until I found the right one.

This pic was stolen from @Odyseuss. You can see the back side of the grab handle in the window reflection.

Here's another possibility, called The Bracketeer on Amazon for about $60. It has a universal mount that looks like it should fit between the rails of one of the front seats. Mounting instructions in the video below. I don't like how the extinguisher attaches to the mechanism though, since it's secured using the extinguisher's plastic attachment and strap (Kidde). I'd want to find something a little more secure, but this might be an option to consider.

That is a very sound, practical and reasonably affordable product..

I bet the amazon mount I used and link to above could either work out of the box with that mount or could be adjusted to fit. If nothing else you could drill a couple holes to be able to thread bolts in it.

Looking to nail down which extinguisher I want before I do my mounting plans especially as the CO2 are noticeably bigger, looking for any real world feedback from Halotron and CO2? I like that with both there is zero mess and they are rechargeable.

Specifically looking at Buckeye 70258 like here:
Buckeye 70258 Halotron Fire Extinguisher 2.5 lb. Fixed Nozzle
BUCKEYE 70258 Fire Extinguisher, 2B:C, 2.5lb., CleanAgent | eBay
Buckeye 70258 Halotron Hand Held Fire Extinguisher with Aluminum Valve and Wall Hook, 2.5 lbs Agent Capacity, 3-3/8" Diameter x 5-5/8" Width x 13-3/8" Height: Science Lab Emergency Response Equipment: Amazon.com: Home Improvement

or an H3R HG250R like here
2.5 lb. HalGuard Red Clean Agent Fire Extinguisher
Amazon.com: H3R Performance HG250R Fire Extinguisher: Home Improvement

For CO2 lots of options since used in restaurants:
Buckeye 5 lb. Carbon Dioxide BC Fire Extinguisher - Rechargeable - UL Rating 5-B:C
Kidde 466180 Pro 5 CD Fire Extinguisher, UL Rated 5-B:C, Carbon Dioxide, Red - - Amazon.com
But I can't find smaller, 2.5lb versions?

I'm leaning halotron as the size/charged weight difference I think is noticeable for my wife or kids if they had to use it, and both are 9 sec duration... thoughts/experiences?

completely agreed on the hope to never use, but yes was looking for any feedback from anyone that has used one or known someone who did. I have used powder several times, just never co2/halon

Regarding your use of powder extinguisher: Assume that was on a vehicle. Curious as to how much damage to the vehicle occurred and whether the Halguard cost premium is worth it (as I suspect it might be).

Humorous side story: bought a $500 disposable car back in the '80s to park at the Burlington Vt airport (then an international airport with free dirt parking lot). This to support my ski appetite (see my avatar) while working in NJ (back in the peoples express $30 round trip days). Anyway, one of my buddies borrowed the car and had a little "carburetor fire". Put it out by throwing sand at it.....Did I say that was it for that rig:bang:

Read good things about that H3R over on ExPo in a few fire extinguisher threads @cruzerDave, but like you and others, no real world experience. Kind of pricey though.

Hey @NLXTACY - noticed you did a mount for 5th Gen 4Runners - very clean. Any ETA on a 100 series mount? Same location (front PS seat)?

Now you're just bustin' our chops.
